1 Bondad de David hacia Mefiboset<br />Cierto día, David preguntó: «¿Hay alguien de la familia de Saúl que aún siga con vida, alguien a quien pueda mostrarle bondad por amor a Jonatán?».

David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”
2 Entonces mandó llamar a Siba, un hombre que había sido uno de los siervos de Saúl.<br />—¿Eres tú Siba? —le preguntó el rey.<br />—Sí, señor, lo soy —contestó Siba.

Now there was a servant of Saul’s household named Ziba. They summoned him to appear before David, and the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?” “At your service,” he replied.
3 Enseguida el rey le preguntó:<br />—¿Hay alguien de la familia de Saúl que todavía viva? De ser así, quisiera mostrarle la bondad de Dios.<br />Siba le contestó:<br />—Sí, uno de los hijos de Jonatán sigue con vida. Está lisiado de ambos pies.

The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?” Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is lame in both feet.”
4 —¿Dónde está? —preguntó el rey.<br />—En Lodebar —le contestó Siba—, en la casa de Maquir, hijo de Amiel.

“Where is he?” the king asked. Ziba answered, “He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.”
5 Entonces David mandó a buscarlo y lo sacó de la casa de Maquir.

So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel.
6 Su nombre era Mefiboset;<br /> era hijo de Jonatán y nieto de Saúl. Cuando se presentó ante David, se postró hasta el suelo con profundo respeto.<br />David dijo:<br />—¡Saludos, Mefiboset!<br />Mefiboset respondió:<br />—Yo soy su siervo.

When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor. David said, “Mephibosheth!” “At your service,” he replied.
7 —¡No tengas miedo! —le dijo David—, mi intención es mostrarte mi bondad por lo que le prometí a tu padre, Jonatán. Te daré todas las propiedades que pertenecían a tu abuelo Saúl, y comerás aquí conmigo, a la mesa del rey.

“Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.”
8 Mefiboset se inclinó respetuosamente y exclamó:<br />—¿Quién es su siervo para que le muestre tal bondad a un perro muerto como yo?

Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?”
9 Entonces el rey llamó a Siba, el siervo de Saúl, y dijo:<br />—Le he dado al nieto de tu amo todo lo que pertenecía a Saúl y a su familia.

Then the king summoned Ziba, Saul’s steward, and said to him, “I have given your master’s grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family.
10 Tú, tus hijos y tus siervos cultivarán la tierra para él, para que produzca alimento para la casa de tu amo.<br /> Pero Mefiboset, el nieto de tu amo, comerá aquí, a mi mesa. (Siba tenía quince hijos y veinte siervos).

You and your sons and your servants are to farm the land for him and bring in the crops, so that your master’s grandson may be provided for. And Mephibosheth, grandson of your master, will always eat at my table.” (Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.)
11 Siba respondió:<br />—Sí, mi señor el rey, yo soy su siervo y haré todo lo que me ha ordenado.<br />A partir de ese momento, Mefiboset comió a la mesa de David,<br /> como si fuera uno de los hijos del rey.

Then Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do whatever my lord the king commands his servant to do.” So Mephibosheth ate at David’s table like one of the king’s sons.
12 Mefiboset tenía un hijo pequeño llamado Mica. A partir de entonces, todos los miembros de la casa de Siba fueron siervos de Mefiboset.

Mephibosheth had a young son named Mika, and all the members of Ziba’s household were servants of Mephibosheth.

And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table; he was lame in both feet.
