2 Thessalonians 3

GNT 1 Finally, our friends, pray for us that the Lord's message may continue to spread rapidly and be received with honor, just as it was among you. NIV 1 Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. GNT 2 Pray also that God will rescue us from wicked and evil people; for not everyone believes the message. NIV 2 And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith. GNT 3 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and keep you safe from the Evil One. NIV 3 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. GNT 4 And the Lord gives us confidence in you, and we are sure that you are doing and will continue to do what we tell you. NIV 4 We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command. GNT 5 May the Lord lead you into a greater understanding of God's love and the endurance that is given by Christ. NIV 5 May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance. GNT 6 Our friends, we command you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to keep away from all believers who are living a lazy life and who do not follow the instructions that we gave them. NIV 6 In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. GNT 7 You yourselves know very well that you should do just what we did. We were not lazy when we were with you. NIV 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, GNT 8 We did not accept anyone's support without paying for it. Instead, we worked and toiled; we kept working day and night so as not to be an expense to any of you. NIV 8 nor did we eat anyone's food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. GNT 9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to demand our support; we did it to be an example for you to follow. NIV 9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to follow. GNT 10 While we were with you, we used to tell you, "Whoever refuses to work is not allowed to eat." NIV 10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." GNT 11 We say this because we hear that there are some people among you who live lazy lives and who do nothing except meddle in other people's business. NIV 11 We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. GNT 12 In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we command these people and warn them to lead orderly lives and work to earn their own living. NIV 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat. GNT 13 But you, friends, must not become tired of doing good. NIV 13 And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right. GNT 14 It may be that some there will not obey the message we send you in this letter. If so, take note of them and have nothing to do with them, so that they will be ashamed. NIV 14 If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed. GNT 15 But do not treat them as enemies; instead, warn them as believers. NIV 15 Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother. GNT 16 May the Lord himself, who is our source of peace, give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with you all. NIV 16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. GNT 17 With my own hand I write this: [Greetings from Paul.] This is the way I sign every letter; this is how I write. NIV 17 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand, which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write. GNT 18 May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. NIV 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
