2 Timothy 2

NAS 1 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. NIV 1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. NAS 2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. NIV 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. NAS 3 Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. NIV 3 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. NAS 4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. NIV 4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs--he wants to please his commanding officer. NAS 5 Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules. NIV 5 Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules. NAS 6 The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. NIV 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. NAS 7 Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything. NIV 7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this. NAS 8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel, NIV 8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, NAS 9 for which I suffer hardship even to imprisonment as a criminal; but the word of God is not imprisoned. NIV 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained. NAS 10 For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory. NIV 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. NAS 11 It is a trustworthy statement: For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him; NIV 11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; NAS 12 If we endure, we will also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He also will deny us; NIV 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; NAS 13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. NIV 13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself. NAS 14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers. NIV 14 Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. NAS 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. NIV 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. NAS 16 But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness, NIV 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. NAS 17 and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, NIV 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, NAS 18 men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some. NIV 18 who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. NAS 19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness." NIV 19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness." NAS 20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. NIV 20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. NAS 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. NIV 21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. NAS 22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. NIV 22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. NAS 23 But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. NIV 23 Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. NAS 24 The Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, NIV 24 And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. NAS 25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, NIV 25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, NAS 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. NIV 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
