2 Timothy 2:1-13

RSV 1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, NIV 1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. RSV 2 and what you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. NIV 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. RSV 4 No soldier on service gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to satisfy the one who enlisted him. NIV 4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs--he wants to please his commanding officer. RSV 5 An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. NIV 5 Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules. RSV 6 It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. NIV 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. RSV 11 The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we shall also live with him; NIV 11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; RSV 12 if we endure, we shall also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; NIV 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; RSV 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful--for he cannot deny himself. NIV 13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
