2 Timothy 4

YLT 1 I do fully testify, then, before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who is about to judge living and dead at his manifestation and his reign -- NIV 1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: YLT 2 preach the word; be earnest in season, out of season, convict, rebuke, exhort, in all long-suffering and teaching, NIV 2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction. YLT 3 for there shall be a season when the sound teaching they will not suffer, but according to their own desires to themselves they shall heap up teachers -- itching in the hearing, NIV 3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. YLT 4 and indeed, from the truth the hearing they shall turn away, and to the fables they shall be turned aside. NIV 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. YLT 5 And thou -- watch in all things; suffer evil; do the work of one proclaiming good news; of thy ministration make full assurance, NIV 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. YLT 6 for I am already being poured out, and the time of my release hath arrived; NIV 6 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. YLT 7 the good strife I have striven, the course I have finished, the faith I have kept, NIV 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. YLT 8 henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of the righteousness that the Lord -- the Righteous Judge -- shall give to me in that day, and not only to me, but also to all those loving his manifestation. NIV 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. YLT 9 Be diligent to come unto me quickly, NIV 9 Do your best to come to me quickly, YLT 10 for Demas forsook me, having loved the present age, and went on to Thessalonica, Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia, NIV 10 for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. YLT 11 Lukas only is with me; Markus having taken, bring with thyself, for he is profitable to me for ministration; NIV 11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry. YLT 12 and Tychicus I sent to Ephesus; NIV 12 I sent Tychicus to Ephesus. YLT 13 the cloak that I left in Troas with Carpus, coming, bring thou and the books -- especially the parchments. NIV 13 When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, and my scrolls, especially the parchments. YLT 14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil; may the Lord repay to him according to his works, NIV 14 Alexander the metalworker did me a great deal of harm. The Lord will repay him for what he has done. YLT 15 of whom also do thou beware, for greatly hath he stood against our words; NIV 15 You too should be on your guard against him, because he strongly opposed our message. YLT 16 in my first defence no one stood with me, but all forsook me, (may it not be reckoned to them!) NIV 16 At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. YLT 17 and the Lord stood by me, and did strengthen me, that through me the preaching might be fully assured, and all the nations might hear, and I was freed out of the mouth of a lion, NIV 17 But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion's mouth. YLT 18 and the Lord shall free me from every evil work, and shall save [me] -- to his heavenly kingdom; to whom [is] the glory to the ages of the ages! Amen. NIV 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
