Acts 20:17-38

ESV 17 Now from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called the elders of the church to come to him. NIV 17 From Miletus, Paul sent to Ephesus for the elders of the church. ESV 18 And when they came to him, he said to them: "You yourselves know how I lived among you the whole time from the first day that I set foot in Asia, NIV 18 When they arrived, he said to them: "You know how I lived the whole time I was with you, from the first day I came into the province of Asia. ESV 19 serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and with trials that happened to me through the plots of the Jews; NIV 19 I served the Lord with great humility and with tears, although I was severely tested by the plots of the Jews. ESV 20 how I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you in public and from house to house, NIV 20 You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. ESV 21 testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 21 I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus. ESV 22 And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, NIV 22 "And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. ESV 23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me. NIV 23 I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. ESV 24 But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. NIV 24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me--the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace. ESV 25 And now, behold, I know that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom will see my face again. NIV 25 "Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. ESV 26 Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all of you, NIV 26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men. ESV 27 for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. NIV 27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. ESV 28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. NIV 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. ESV 29 I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; NIV 29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. ESV 30 and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. NIV 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. ESV 31 Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish everyone with tears. NIV 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. ESV 32 And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. NIV 32 "Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. ESV 33 I coveted no one's silver or gold or apparel. NIV 33 I have not coveted anyone's silver or gold or clothing. ESV 34 You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my necessities and to those who were with me. NIV 34 You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. ESV 35 In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" NIV 35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' " ESV 36 And when he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all. NIV 36 When he had said this, he knelt down with all of them and prayed. ESV 37 And there was much weeping on the part of all; they embraced Paul and kissed him, NIV 37 They all wept as they embraced him and kissed him. ESV 38 being sorrowful most of all because of the word he had spoken, that they would not see his face again. And they accompanied him to the ship. NIV 38 What grieved them most was his statement that they would never see his face again. Then they accompanied him to the ship.
