NIV 4 The LORD spoke to you face to face out of the fire on the mountain. GNT 5 I stood between you and the Lord at that time to tell you what he said, because you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain. "The Lord said, NIV 5 (At that time I stood between the LORD and you to declare to you the word of the LORD, because you were afraid of the fire and did not go up the mountain.) And he said: GNT 6 "I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from Egypt, where you were slaves. NIV 6 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. GNT 7 " "Worship no god but me. NIV 7 "You shall have no other gods before me. GNT 8 " "Do not make for yourselves images of anything in heaven or on earth or in the water under the earth. NIV 8 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. I bring punishment on those who hate me and on their descendants down to the third and fourth generation. NIV 9 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, GNT 10 But I show my love to thousands of generations of those who love me and obey my laws. NIV 10 but showing love to a thousand [ generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments. GNT 11 " "Do not use my name for evil purposes, for I, the Lord your God, will punish anyone who misuses my name. GNT 12 " "Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy, as I, the Lord your God, have commanded you. NIV 12 "Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. GNT 13 You have six days in which to do your work, NIV 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, GNT 14 but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to me. On that day no one is to work - neither you, your children, your slaves, your animals, nor the foreigners who live in your country. Your slaves must rest just as you do. NIV 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do. GNT 15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt, and that I, the Lord your God, rescued you by my great power and strength. That is why I command you to observe the Sabbath. NIV 15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.
