Ephesians 5

HNV 1 Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children. NIV 1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children HNV 2 Walk in love, even as Messiah also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance. NIV 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. HNV 3 But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes holy ones; NIV 3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. HNV 4 nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, or jesting, which are not appropriate; but rather giving of thanks. NIV 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. HNV 5 Know this for sure, that no sexually immoral person, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Messiah and God. NIV 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. HNV 6 Let no man deceive you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God comes on the sons of disobedience. NIV 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. HNV 7 Don't be therefore partakers with them. NIV 7 Therefore do not be partners with them. HNV 8 For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light, NIV 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light HNV 9 for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth, NIV 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) HNV 10 proving what is well-pleasing to the Lord. NIV 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. HNV 11 Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them. NIV 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. HNV 12 For the things which are done by them in secret, it is a shame even to speak of. NIV 12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. HNV 13 But all things, when they are reproved, are revealed by the light, for everything that is revealed is light. NIV 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, HNV 14 Therefore he says, "Awake, you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Messiah will shine on you." NIV 14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." HNV 15 Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise; NIV 15 Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise, HNV 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. NIV 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. HNV 17 Therefore don't be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. NIV 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. HNV 18 Don't be drunken with wine, in which is an abandoned life, but be filled with the Spirit, NIV 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. HNV 19 speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; singing, and singing praises in your heart to the Lord; NIV 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, HNV 20 giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord, Yeshua the Messiah, to God, even the Father; NIV 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. HNV 21 subjecting yourselves one to another in the fear of Messiah. NIV 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. HNV 22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. NIV 22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. HNV 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, and Messiah also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body. NIV 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. HNV 24 But as the assembly is subject to Messiah, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything. NIV 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. HNV 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Messiah also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it; NIV 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her HNV 26 that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word, NIV 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, HNV 27 that he might present the assembly to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. NIV 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. HNV 28 Even so ought husbands also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself. NIV 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. HNV 29 For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord also the assembly; NIV 29 After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church-- HNV 30 because we are members of his body, of his flesh and bones. NIV 30 for we are members of his body. HNV 31 "For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh." NIV 31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." HNV 32 This mystery is great, but I speak in regard of Messiah and of the assembly. NIV 32 This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church. HNV 33 Nevertheless each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband. NIV 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
