Ephesians 6

WNT 1 Children, be obedient to your parents as a Christian duty, for it is a duty. NIV 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. WNT 2 "Honour your father and your mother" --this is the first Commandment which has a promise added to it-- NIV 2 "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise-- WNT 3 "so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth." NIV 3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." WNT 4 And you, fathers, do not irritate your children, but bring them up tenderly with true Christian training and advice. NIV 4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. WNT 5 Slaves, be obedient to your earthly masters, with respect and eager anxiety to please and with simplicity of motive as if you were obeying Christ. NIV 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. WNT 6 Let it not be in acts of eye-service as if you had but to please men, but as Christ's bondservants who are doing God's will from the heart. NIV 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. WNT 7 With right good will, be faithful to your duty as service rendered to the Lord and not to man. NIV 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, WNT 8 You well know that whatever right thing any one does, he will receive a requital for it from the Lord, whether he is a slave or a free man. NIV 8 because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free. WNT 9 And you masters, act towards your slaves on the same principles, and refrain from threats. For you know that in Heaven there is One who is your Master as well as theirs, and that merely earthly distinctions there are none with Him. NIV 9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him. WNT 10 In conclusion, strengthen yourselves in the Lord and in the power which His supreme might imparts. NIV 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. WNT 11 Put on the complete armour of God, so as to be able to stand firm against all the stratagems of the Devil. NIV 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. WNT 12 For ours is not a conflict with mere flesh and blood, but with the despotisms, the empires, the forces that control and govern this dark world--the spiritual hosts of evil arrayed against us in the heavenly warfare. NIV 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. WNT 13 Therefore put on the complete armour of God, so that you may be able to stand your ground on the day of battle, and, having fought to the end, to remain victors on the field. NIV 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. WNT 14 Stand therefore, first fastening round you the girdle of truth and putting on the breastplate of uprightness NIV 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, WNT 15 as well as the shoes of the Good News of peace-- a firm foundation for your feet. NIV 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. WNT 16 And besides all these take the great shield of faith, on which you will be able to quench all the flaming darts of the Wicked one; NIV 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. WNT 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. NIV 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. WNT 18 Pray with unceasing prayer and entreaty on every fitting occasion in the Spirit, and be always on the alert to seize opportunities for doing so, with unwearied persistence and entreaty on behalf of all God's people, NIV 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. WNT 19 and ask on my behalf that words may be given to me so that, outspoken and fearless, I may make known the truths (hitherto kept secret) of the Good News-- NIV 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, WNT 20 to spread which I am an ambassador in chains--so that when telling them I may speak out boldly as I ought. NIV 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. WNT 21 But in order that you also may know how I am doing, Tychicus our dearly-loved brother and faithful helper in the Lord's service will tell you everything. NIV 21 Tychicus, the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing. WNT 22 I have sent him to you for the very purpose--that you may know about us and that he may encourage you. NIV 22 I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage you. WNT 23 Peace be to the brethren, and love combined with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 23 Peace to the brothers, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. WNT 24 May grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with perfect sincerity.
