Exodus 20:17-26

NRS 17 You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. NIV 17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." NRS 18 When all the people witnessed the thunder and lightning, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking, they were afraid and trembled and stood at a distance, NIV 18 When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance NRS 19 and said to Moses, "You speak to us, and we will listen; but do not let God speak to us, or we will die." NIV 19 and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die." NRS 20 Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid; for God has come only to test you and to put the fear of him upon you so that you do not sin." NIV 20 Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning." NRS 21 Then the people stood at a distance, while Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was. NIV 21 The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was. NRS 22 The Lord said to Moses: Thus you shall say to the Israelites: "You have seen for yourselves that I spoke with you from heaven. NIV 22 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites this: 'You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven: NRS 23 You shall not make gods of silver alongside me, nor shall you make for yourselves gods of gold. NIV 23 Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold. NRS 24 You need make for me only an altar of earth and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your offerings of well-being, your sheep and your oxen; in every place where I cause my name to be remembered I will come to you and bless you. NIV 24 " 'Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you. NRS 25 But if you make for me an altar of stone, do not build it of hewn stones; for if you use a chisel upon it you profane it. NIV 25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it. NRS 26 You shall not go up by steps to my altar, so that your nakedness may not be exposed on it." NIV 26 And do not go up to my altar on steps, lest your nakedness be exposed on it.'
