NRS 1 The hand of the Lord came upon me, and he brought me out by the spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. NIV 1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. NRS 2 He led me all around them; there were very many lying in the valley, and they were very dry. NIV 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. NRS 3 He said to me, "Mortal, can these bones live?" I answered, "O Lord God, you know." NIV 3 He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" I said, "O Sovereign LORD, you alone know." NRS 4 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to these bones, and say to them: O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. NIV 4 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to these bones and say to them, 'Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! NRS 5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones: I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. NIV 5 This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. NRS 6 I will lay sinews on you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the Lord." NIV 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.' " NRS 7 So I prophesied as I had been commanded; and as I prophesied, suddenly there was a noise, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. NIV 7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. NRS 8 I looked, and there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them; but there was no breath in them. NIV 8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them. NRS 9 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, mortal, and say to the breath: Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live." NIV 9 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe into these slain, that they may live.' " NRS 10 I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood on their feet, a vast multitude. NIV 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet--a vast army. NRS 11 Then he said to me, "Mortal, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, "Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are cut off completely.' NIV 11 Then he said to me: "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, 'Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.' NRS 12 Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: I am going to open your graves, and bring you up from your graves, O my people; and I will bring you back to the land of Israel. NIV 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: O my people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. NRS 13 And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, and bring you up from your graves, O my people. NIV 13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. NRS 14 I will put my spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you on your own soil; then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken and will act, says the Lord." NIV 14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD.' NRS 19 say to them, Thus says the Lord God: I am about to take the stick of Joseph (which is in the hand of Ephraim) and the tribes of Israel associated with it; and I will put the stick of Judah upon it, and make them one stick, in order that they may be one in my hand. NIV 19 say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am going to take the stick of Joseph--which is in Ephraim's hand--and of the Israelite tribes associated with him, and join it to Judah's stick, making them a single stick of wood, and they will become one in my hand.'
