NCV 1 This is the family history of Esau (also called Edom). NIV 1 This is the account of Esau (that is, Edom). NCV 2 Esau married women from the land of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite; and Oholibamah daughter of Anah, the son of Zibeon the Hivite; NIV 2 Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite-- NCV 3 and Basemath, Ishmael's daughter, the sister of Nebaioth. NIV 3 also Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth. NCV 4 Adah gave birth to Eliphaz for Esau. Basemath gave him Reuel, NIV 4 Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel, NCV 5 and Oholibamah gave him Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These were Esau's sons who were born in the land of Canaan. NIV 5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in Canaan. NCV 6 Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the people who lived with him, his herds and other animals, and all the belongings he had gotten in Canaan, and he went to a land away from his brother Jacob. NIV 6 Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan, and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob. NCV 7 Esau's and Jacob's belongings were becoming too many for them to live in the same land. The land where they had lived could not support both of them, because they had too many herds. NIV 7 Their possessions were too great for them to remain together; the land where they were staying could not support them both because of their livestock. NCV 8 So Esau lived in the mountains of Edom. (Esau is also named Edom.) NIV 8 So Esau (that is, Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir. NCV 9 This is the family history of Esau. He is the ancestor of the Edomites, who live in the mountains of Edom. NIV 9 This is the account of Esau the father of the Edomites in the hill country of Seir. NCV 10 Esau's sons were Eliphaz, son of Adah and Esau, and Reuel, son of Basemath and Esau. NIV 10 These are the names of Esau's sons: Eliphaz, the son of Esau's wife Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau's wife Basemath. NCV 11 Eliphaz had five sons: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz. NCV 13 Reuel had four sons: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were Esau's grandsons by his wife Basemath. NIV 13 The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were grandsons of Esau's wife Basemath. NCV 14 Esau's third wife was Oholibamah the daughter of Anah. (Anah was the son of Zibeon.) Esau and Oholibamah gave birth to Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. NIV 14 The sons of Esau's wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon, whom she bore to Esau: Jeush, Jalam and Korah. NCV 15 These were the leaders that came from Esau: Esau's first son was Eliphaz. From him came these leaders: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz, NIV 15 These were the chiefs among Esau's descendants: The sons of Eliphaz the firstborn of Esau: Chiefs Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz, NCV 16 Korah, Gatam, and Amalek. These were the chiefs descended from Eliphaz in Edom; they were grandsons of Adah. NCV 17 Esau's son Reuel was the father of these leaders: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were the leaders that came from Reuel in the land of Edom. They were the grandsons of Esau's wife Basemath. NIV 17 The sons of Esau's son Reuel: Chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were the chiefs descended from Reuel in Edom; they were grandsons of Esau's wife Basemath. NCV 18 Esau's wife Oholibamah gave birth to these leaders: Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These are the leaders that came from Esau's wife Oholibamah the daughter of Anah. NIV 18 The sons of Esau's wife Oholibamah: Chiefs Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the chiefs descended from Esau's wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah. NCV 19 These were the sons of Esau (also called Edom), and these were their leaders. NIV 23 The sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam. NCV 24 The sons of Zibeon were Aiah and Anah. Anah is the man who found the hot springs in the desert while he was caring for his father's donkeys. NIV 24 The sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. This is the Anah who discovered the hot springs in the desert while he was grazing the donkeys of his father Zibeon. NCV 25 The children of Anah were Dishon and Oholibamah daughter of Anah. NIV 25 The children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah daughter of Anah. NCV 26 The sons of Dishon were Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Keran. NIV 26 The sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran. NCV 27 The sons of Ezer were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan. NIV 27 The sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan. NCV 28 The sons of Dishan were Uz and Aran. NIV 28 The sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. NCV 31 These are the kings who ruled in the land of Edom before the Israelites ever had a king: NIV 31 These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king reigned: NCV 32 Bela son of Beor was the king of Edom. He came from the city of Dinhabah. NIV 32 Bela son of Beor became king of Edom. His city was named Dinhabah. NCV 33 When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah became king. Jobab was from Bozrah. NIV 33 When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him as king. NCV 34 When Jobab died, Husham became king. He was from the land of the Temanites. NIV 34 When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king. NCV 35 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who had defeated Midian in the country of Moab, became king. Hadad was from the city of Avith. NIV 35 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith. NCV 36 When Hadad died, Samlah became king. He was from Masrekah. NIV 36 When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king. NCV 37 When Samlah died, Shaul became king. He was from Rehoboth on the Euphrates River. NIV 37 When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river succeeded him as king. NCV 38 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Acbor became king. NIV 38 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Acbor succeeded him as king. NCV 39 When Baal-Hanan son of Acbor died, Hadad became king. He was from the city of Pau. His wife's name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, who was the daughter of Me-Zahab. NIV 39 When Baal-Hanan son of Acbor died, Hadad succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau, and his wife's name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab. NCV 40 These Edomite leaders, listed by their families and regions, came from Esau. Their names were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, NIV 40 These were the chiefs descended from Esau, by name, according to their clans and regions: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, NCV 41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, NIV 41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, NCV 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, NIV 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, NCV 43 Magdiel, and Iram. They were the leaders of Edom. (Esau was the father of the Edomites.) The area where each of these families lived was named after that family. NIV 43 Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they occupied. This was Esau the father of the Edomites.
