Genesis 46

ESV 1 So Israel took his journey with all that he had and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. NIV 1 So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. ESV 2 And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, "Jacob, Jacob." And he said, "Here am I." NIV 2 And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, "Jacob! Jacob!" "Here I am," he replied. ESV 3 Then he said, "I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation. NIV 3 "I am God, the God of your father," he said. "Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. ESV 4 I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again, and Joseph's hand shall close your eyes." NIV 4 I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph's own hand will close your eyes." ESV 5 Then Jacob set out from Beersheba. The sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him. NIV 5 Then Jacob left Beersheba, and Israel's sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts that Pharaoh had sent to transport him. ESV 6 They also took their livestock and their goods, which they had gained in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him, NIV 6 They also took with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan, and Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt. ESV 7 his sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters. All his offspring he brought with him into Egypt. NIV 7 He took with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters--all his offspring. ESV 8 Now these are the names of the descendants of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons. Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, NIV 8 These are the names of the sons of Israel (Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt: Reuben the firstborn of Jacob. ESV 9 and the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. NIV 9 The sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. ESV 10 The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman. ESV 15 These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, together with his daughter Dinah; altogether his sons and his daughters numbered thirty-three. NIV 18 These were the children born to Jacob by Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah--sixteen in all. ESV 19 The sons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin. ESV 20 And to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera the priest of On, bore to him. ESV 21 And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. NIV 21 The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Beker, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim and Ard. ESV 22 These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob--fourteen persons in all. ESV 25 These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, and these she bore to Jacob--seven persons in all. NIV 25 These were the sons born to Jacob by Bilhah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel--seven in all. ESV 26 All the persons belonging to Jacob who came into Egypt, who were his own descendants, not including Jacob's sons' wives, were sixty-six persons in all. NIV 26 All those who went to Egypt with Jacob--those who were his direct descendants, not counting his sons' wives--numbered sixty-six persons. ESV 27 And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two. All the persons of the house of Jacob who came into Egypt were seventy. NIV 27 With the two sons who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob's family, which went to Egypt, were seventy in all. ESV 28 He had sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to show the way before him in Goshen, and they came into the land of Goshen. NIV 28 Now Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to Goshen. When they arrived in the region of Goshen, ESV 29 Then Joseph prepared his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father in Goshen. He presented himself to him and fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while. NIV 29 Joseph had his chariot made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father and wept for a long time. ESV 30 Israel said to Joseph, "Now let me die, since I have seen your face and know that you are still alive." NIV 30 Israel said to Joseph, "Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive." ESV 31 Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's household, "I will go up and tell Pharaoh and will say to him, 'My brothers and my father's household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me. NIV 31 Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's household, "I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him, 'My brothers and my father's household, who were living in the land of Canaan, have come to me. ESV 32 And the men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of livestock, and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.' NIV 32 The men are shepherds; they tend livestock, and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.' ESV 33 When Pharaoh calls you and says, 'What is your occupation?' NIV 33 When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, 'What is your occupation?' ESV 34 you shall say, 'Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,' in order that you may dwell in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians." NIV 34 you should answer, 'Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.' Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians."
