Isaiah 65

NCV 1 The Lord says, "I made myself known to people who were notlooking for me. I was found by those who were not asking me for help. I said, 'Here I am. Here I am,' to a nation that was not praying to me. NIV 1 "I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said, 'Here am I, here am I.' NCV 2 All day long I stood ready to accept people who turned against me, but the way they continue to live is not good; they do anything they want to do. NIV 2 All day long I have held out my hands to an obstinate people, who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations-- NCV 3 Right in front of me they continue to do things that make me angry. They offer sacrifices to their gods in their gardens, and they burn incense on altars of brick. NIV 3 a people who continually provoke me to my very face, offering sacrifices in gardens and burning incense on altars of brick; NCV 4 They sit among the graves and spend their nights waiting to get messages from the dead. They eat the meat of pigs, and their pots are full of soup made from meat that is wrong to eat. NIV 4 who sit among the graves and spend their nights keeping secret vigil; who eat the flesh of pigs, and whose pots hold broth of unclean meat; NCV 5 But they tell others, 'Stay away, and don't come near me. I am too holy for you.' These people are like smoke in my nose. Like a fire that burns all the time, they continue to make me angry. NIV 5 who say, 'Keep away; don't come near me, for I am too sacred for you!' Such people are smoke in my nostrils, a fire that keeps burning all day. NCV 6 "Look, it is written here before me. I will not be quiet; instead, I will repay you in full. I will punish you for what you have done. NIV 6 "See, it stands written before me: I will not keep silent but will pay back in full; I will pay it back into their laps-- NCV 7 I will punish you for your sins and your ancestors' sins," says the Lord. "They burned incense to gods on the mountains and shamed me on those hills. So I will punish them as they should be punished for what they did." NIV 7 both your sins and the sins of your fathers," says the LORD. "Because they burned sacrifices on the mountains and defied me on the hills, I will measure into their laps the full payment for their former deeds." NCV 8 This is what the Lord says: "When there is juice left in the grapes, people do not destroy them, because they know there is good left in them. So I will do the same thing to my servants -- I will not completely destroy them. NIV 8 This is what the LORD says: "As when juice is still found in a cluster of grapes and men say, 'Don't destroy it, there is yet some good in it,' so will I do in behalf of my servants; I will not destroy them all. NCV 9 I will leave some of the children of Jacob, and some of the people of Judah will receive my mountain. I will choose the people who will live there; my servants will live there. NIV 9 I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, and from Judah those who will possess my mountains; my chosen people will inherit them, and there will my servants live. NCV 10 Then the Plain of Sharon will be a field for flocks, and the Valley of Achor will be a place for herds to rest. They will be for the people who want to follow me. NIV 10 Sharon will become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a resting place for herds, for my people who seek me. NCV 11 "But as for you who left the Lord, who forgot about my holy mountain, who worship the god Luck, who hold religious feasts for the god Fate, NIV 11 "But as for you who forsake the LORD and forget my holy mountain, who spread a table for Fortune and fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny, NCV 12 I decide your fate, and I will punish you with my sword. You will all be killed, because I called you, but you refused to answer. I spoke to you, but you wouldn't listen. You did the things I said were evil and chose to do things that displease me." NIV 12 I will destine you for the sword, and you will all bend down for the slaughter; for I called but you did not answer, I spoke but you did not listen. You did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me." NCV 13 So this is what the Lord God says: "My servants will eat, but you evil people will be hungry. My servants will drink, but you evil people will be thirsty. My servants will be happy, but you evil people will be shamed. NIV 13 Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "My servants will eat, but you will go hungry; my servants will drink, but you will go thirsty; my servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame. NCV 14 My servants will shout for joy because of the goodness of their hearts, but you evil people will cry, because you will be sad. You will cry loudly, because your spirits will be broken. NIV 14 My servants will sing out of the joy of their hearts, but you will cry out from anguish of heart and wail in brokenness of spirit. NCV 15 Your names will be like curses to my servants, and the Lord God will put you to death. But he will call his servants by another name. NIV 15 You will leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse; the Sovereign LORD will put you to death, but to his servants he will give another name. NCV 16 People in the land who ask for blessings will ask for them from the faithful God. And people in the land who make a promise will promise in the name of the faithful God, because the troubles of the past will be forgotten. I will make those troubles go away. NIV 16 Whoever invokes a blessing in the land will do so by the God of truth; he who takes an oath in the land will swear by the God of truth. For the past troubles will be forgotten and hidden from my eyes. NCV 17 "Look, I will make new heavens and a new earth, and people will not remember the past or think about those things. NIV 17 "Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. NCV 18 My people will be happy forever because of the things I will make. I will make a Jerusalem that is full of joy, and I will make her people a delight. NIV 18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. NCV 19 Then I will rejoice over Jerusalem and be delighted with my people. There will never again be heard in that city the sounds of crying and sadness. NIV 19 I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more. NCV 20 There will never be a baby from that city who lives only a few days. And there will never be an older person who doesn't have a long life. A person who lives a hundred years will be called young, and a person who dies before he is a hundred will be thought of as a sinner. NIV 20 "Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; he who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth; he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed. NCV 21 In that city those who build houses will live there. Those who plant vineyards will get to eat their grapes. NIV 21 They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. NCV 22 No more will one person build a house and someone else live there. One person will not plant a garden and someone else eat its fruit. My people will live a long time, as trees live long. My chosen people will live there and enjoy the things they make. NIV 22 No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. NCV 23 They will never again work for nothing. They will never again give birth to children who die young. All my people will be blessed by the Lord; they and their children will be blessed. NIV 23 They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the LORD, they and their descendants with them. NCV 24 I will provide for their needs before they ask, and I will help them while they are still asking for help. NIV 24 Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. NCV 25 Wolves and lambs will eat together in peace. Lions will eat hay like oxen, and a snake on the ground will not hurt anyone. They will not hurt or destroy each other on all my holy mountain," says the Lord. NIV 25 The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent's food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain," says the LORD.
