Job 17

CSB 1 My spirit is broken. My days are extinguished. A graveyard awaits me. NIV 1 My spirit is broken, my days are cut short, the grave awaits me. CSB 2 Surely mockers surround me and my eyes must gaze at their rebellion. NIV 2 Surely mockers surround me; my eyes must dwell on their hostility. CSB 3 Make arrangements! Put up security for me. Who [else] will be my sponsor? NIV 3 "Give me, O God, the pledge you demand. Who else will put up security for me? CSB 4 You have closed their minds to understanding, therefore You will not honor [them]. NIV 4 You have closed their minds to understanding; therefore you will not let them triumph. CSB 5 If a man informs on his friends for a price, the eyes of his children will fail. NIV 5 If a man denounces his friends for reward, the eyes of his children will fail. CSB 6 He has made me an object of scorn to the people; I have become a man people spit at. NIV 6 "God has made me a byword to everyone, a man in whose face people spit. CSB 7 My eyes have grown dim from grief, and my whole body has become but a shadow. NIV 7 My eyes have grown dim with grief; my whole frame is but a shadow. CSB 8 The upright are appalled at this, and the innocent are roused against the godless. NIV 8 Upright men are appalled at this; the innocent are aroused against the ungodly. CSB 9 Yet the righteous person will hold to his way, and the one whose hands are clean will grow stronger. NIV 9 Nevertheless, the righteous will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands will grow stronger. CSB 10 But come back [and try] again, all of you. I will not find a wise man among you. NIV 10 "But come on, all of you, try again! I will not find a wise man among you. CSB 11 My days have slipped by; my plans have been ruined, even the things dear to my heart. NIV 11 My days have passed, my plans are shattered, and so are the desires of my heart. CSB 12 They turned night into day and [made] light [seem] near in the face of darkness. NIV 12 These men turn night into day; in the face of darkness they say, 'Light is near.' CSB 13 If I await Sheol as my home, spread out my bed in darkness, NIV 13 If the only home I hope for is the grave, if I spread out my bed in darkness, CSB 14 and say to the Pit: You are my father, and to the worm: My mother or my sister, NIV 14 if I say to corruption, 'You are my father,' and to the worm, 'My mother' or 'My sister,' CSB 15 where then is my hope? Who can see [any] hope for me? NIV 15 where then is my hope? Who can see any hope for me? CSB 16 Will it go down to the gates of Sheol, or will we descend together to the dust? NIV 16 Will it go down to the gates of death ? Will we descend together into the dust?"
