NAS 1 Then Job responded , NIV 1 Then Job replied: NAS 2 "How long will you torment me And crush me with words? NIV 2 "How long will you torment me and crush me with words? NAS 3 "These ten times you have insulted me; You are not ashamed to wrong me. NIV 3 Ten times now you have reproached me; shamelessly you attack me. NAS 4 "Even if I have truly erred, My error lodges with me. NIV 4 If it is true that I have gone astray, my error remains my concern alone. NAS 5 "If indeed you vaunt yourselves against me And prove my disgrace to me, NIV 5 If indeed you would exalt yourselves above me and use my humiliation against me, NAS 6 Know then that God has wronged me And has closed His net around me. NIV 6 then know that God has wronged me and drawn his net around me. NAS 7 "Behold, I cry, 'Violence!' but I get no answer; I shout for help, but there is no justice. NIV 7 "Though I cry, 'I've been wronged!' I get no response; though I call for help, there is no justice. NAS 8 "He has walled up my way so that I cannot pass, And He has put darkness on my paths. NIV 8 He has blocked my way so I cannot pass; he has shrouded my paths in darkness. NAS 9 "He has stripped my honor from me And removed the crown from my head. NIV 9 He has stripped me of my honor and removed the crown from my head. NAS 10 "He breaks me down on every side, and I am gone; And He has uprooted my hope like a tree. NIV 10 He tears me down on every side till I am gone; he uproots my hope like a tree. NAS 11 "He has also kindled His anger against me And considered me as His enemy. NIV 11 His anger burns against me; he counts me among his enemies. NAS 12 "His troops come together, And build up their way against me And camp around my tent. NIV 12 His troops advance in force; they build a siege ramp against me and encamp around my tent. NAS 13 "He has removed my brothers far from me, And my acquaintances are completely estranged from me. NIV 13 "He has alienated my brothers from me; my acquaintances are completely estranged from me. NAS 14 "My relatives have failed, And my intimate friends have forgotten me. NIV 14 My kinsmen have gone away; my friends have forgotten me. NAS 15 "Those who live in my house and my maids consider me a stranger. I am a foreigner in their sight. NIV 15 My guests and my maidservants count me a stranger; they look upon me as an alien. NAS 16 "I call to my servant, but he does not answer; I have to implore him with my mouth. NIV 16 I summon my servant, but he does not answer, though I beg him with my own mouth. NAS 17 "My breath is offensive to my wife, And I am loathsome to my own brothers . NIV 17 My breath is offensive to my wife; I am loathsome to my own brothers. NAS 18 "Even young children despise me; I rise up and they speak against me. NIV 18 Even the little boys scorn me; when I appear, they ridicule me. NAS 19 "All my associates abhor me, And those I love have turned against me. NIV 19 All my intimate friends detest me; those I love have turned against me. NAS 20 "My bone clings to my skin and my flesh, And I have escaped only by the skin of my teeth. NIV 20 I am nothing but skin and bones; I have escaped with only the skin of my teeth. NAS 21 "Pity me, pity me, O you my friends, For the hand of God has struck me. NIV 21 "Have pity on me, my friends, have pity, for the hand of God has struck me. NAS 22 "Why do you persecute me as God does, And are not satisfied with my flesh? NIV 22 Why do you pursue me as God does? Will you never get enough of my flesh? NAS 23 "Oh that my words were written! Oh that they were inscribed in a book! NIV 23 "Oh, that my words were recorded, that they were written on a scroll, NAS 24 "That with an iron stylus and lead They were engraved in the rock forever! NIV 24 that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead, or engraved in rock forever! NAS 25 "As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth. NIV 25 I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. NAS 26 "Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I shall see God; NIV 26 And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; NAS 27 Whom I myself shall behold, And whom my eyes will see and not another. My heart faints within me! NIV 27 I myself will see him with my own eyes--I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me! NAS 28 "If you say, 'How shall we persecute him?' And 'What pretext for a case against him can we find?' NIV 28 "If you say, 'How we will hound him, since the root of the trouble lies in him, ' NAS 29 "Then be afraid of the sword for yourselves, For wrath brings the punishment of the sword, So that you may know there is judgment." NIV 29 you should fear the sword yourselves; for wrath will bring punishment by the sword, and then you will know that there is judgment. "
