VUL 1 respondens autem Iob dixit NIV 1 Then Job replied: VUL 2 usquequo adfligitis animam meam et adteritis me sermonibus NIV 2 "How long will you torment me and crush me with words? VUL 3 en decies confunditis me et non erubescitis opprimentes me NIV 3 Ten times now you have reproached me; shamelessly you attack me. VUL 4 nempe et si ignoravi mecum erit ignorantia mea NIV 4 If it is true that I have gone astray, my error remains my concern alone. VUL 5 at vos contra me erigimini et arguitis me obprobriis meis NIV 5 If indeed you would exalt yourselves above me and use my humiliation against me, VUL 6 saltim nunc intellegite quia Deus non aequo iudicio adflixerit me et flagellis suis me cinxerit NIV 6 then know that God has wronged me and drawn his net around me. VUL 7 ecce clamabo vim patiens et nemo audiet vociferabor et non est qui iudicet NIV 7 "Though I cry, 'I've been wronged!' I get no response; though I call for help, there is no justice. VUL 8 semitam meam circumsepsit et transire non possum et in calle meo tenebras posuit NIV 8 He has blocked my way so I cannot pass; he has shrouded my paths in darkness. VUL 9 spoliavit me gloria mea et abstulit coronam de capite meo NIV 9 He has stripped me of my honor and removed the crown from my head. VUL 10 destruxit me undique et pereo et quasi evulsae arbori abstulit spem meam NIV 10 He tears me down on every side till I am gone; he uproots my hope like a tree. VUL 11 iratus est contra me furor eius et sic me habuit quasi hostem suum NIV 11 His anger burns against me; he counts me among his enemies. VUL 12 simul venerunt latrones eius et fecerunt sibi viam per me et obsederunt in gyro tabernaculum meum NIV 12 His troops advance in force; they build a siege ramp against me and encamp around my tent. VUL 13 fratres meos longe fecit a me et noti mei quasi alieni recesserunt a me NIV 13 "He has alienated my brothers from me; my acquaintances are completely estranged from me. VUL 14 dereliquerunt me propinqui mei et qui me noverant obliti sunt mei NIV 14 My kinsmen have gone away; my friends have forgotten me. VUL 15 inquilini domus meae et ancillae meae sicut alienum habuerunt me et quasi peregrinus fui in oculis eorum NIV 15 My guests and my maidservants count me a stranger; they look upon me as an alien. VUL 16 servum meum vocavi et non respondit ore proprio deprecabar illum NIV 16 I summon my servant, but he does not answer, though I beg him with my own mouth. VUL 17 halitum meum exhorruit uxor mea et orabam filios uteri mei NIV 17 My breath is offensive to my wife; I am loathsome to my own brothers. VUL 18 stulti quoque despiciebant me et cum ab eis recessissem detrahebant mihi NIV 18 Even the little boys scorn me; when I appear, they ridicule me. VUL 19 abominati sunt me quondam consiliarii mei et quem maxime diligebam aversatus est me NIV 19 All my intimate friends detest me; those I love have turned against me. VUL 20 pelli meae consumptis carnibus adhesit os meum et derelicta sunt tantummodo labia circa dentes meos NIV 20 I am nothing but skin and bones; I have escaped with only the skin of my teeth. VUL 21 miseremini mei miseremini mei saltim vos amici mei quia manus Domini tetigit me NIV 21 "Have pity on me, my friends, have pity, for the hand of God has struck me. VUL 22 quare persequimini me sicut Deus et carnibus meis saturamini NIV 22 Why do you pursue me as God does? Will you never get enough of my flesh? VUL 23 quis mihi tribuat ut scribantur sermones mei quis mihi det ut exarentur in libro NIV 23 "Oh, that my words were recorded, that they were written on a scroll, VUL 24 stilo ferreo et plumbi lammina vel certe sculpantur in silice NIV 24 that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead, or engraved in rock forever! VUL 25 scio enim quod redemptor meus vivat et in novissimo de terra surrecturus sim NIV 25 I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. VUL 26 et rursum circumdabor pelle mea et in carne mea videbo Deum NIV 26 And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; VUL 27 quem visurus sum ego ipse et oculi mei conspecturi sunt et non alius reposita est haec spes mea in sinu meo NIV 27 I myself will see him with my own eyes--I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me! VUL 28 quare ergo nunc dicitis persequamur eum et radicem verbi inveniamus contra eum NIV 28 "If you say, 'How we will hound him, since the root of the trouble lies in him, ' VUL 29 fugite ergo a facie gladii quoniam ultor iniquitatum gladius est et scitote esse iudicium NIV 29 you should fear the sword yourselves; for wrath will bring punishment by the sword, and then you will know that there is judgment.
