Job 33

TMB 1 "Therefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches and hearken to all my words. NIV 1 "But now, Job, listen to my words; pay attention to everything I say. TMB 2 Behold, now I have opened my mouth; my tongue hath spoken in my mouth. NIV 2 I am about to open my mouth; my words are on the tip of my tongue. TMB 3 My words shall be from the uprightness of my heart, and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly. NIV 3 My words come from an upright heart; my lips sincerely speak what I know. TMB 4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life. NIV 4 The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. TMB 5 If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me and stand up. NIV 5 Answer me then, if you can; prepare yourself and confront me. TMB 6 Behold, I am according to thy wish in God's stead, I also am formed out of the clay. NIV 6 I am just like you before God; I too have been taken from clay. TMB 7 Behold, terror of me shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee. NIV 7 No fear of me should alarm you, nor should my hand be heavy upon you. TMB 8 "Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying, NIV 8 "But you have said in my hearing-- I heard the very words-- TMB 9 `I am clean, without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me. NIV 9 'I am pure and without sin; I am clean and free from guilt. TMB 10 Behold, He findeth occasions against me; He counteth me for His enemy. NIV 10 Yet God has found fault with me; he considers me his enemy. TMB 11 He putteth my feet in the stocks; He marketh all my paths.' NIV 11 He fastens my feet in shackles; he keeps close watch on all my paths.' TMB 12 "Behold, in this thou art not just; I will answer thee: that God is greater than man. NIV 12 "But I tell you, in this you are not right, for God is greater than man. TMB 13 Why dost thou strive against Him? For He giveth not account of any of His matters. NIV 13 Why do you complain to him that he answers none of man's words ? TMB 14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. NIV 14 For God does speak--now one way, now another-- though man may not perceive it. TMB 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed, NIV 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men as they slumber in their beds, TMB 16 then He openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction, NIV 16 he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, TMB 17 that He may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. NIV 17 to turn man from wrongdoing and keep him from pride, TMB 18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword. NIV 18 to preserve his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword. TMB 19 "He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain, NIV 19 Or a man may be chastened on a bed of pain with constant distress in his bones, TMB 20 so that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat. NIV 20 so that his very being finds food repulsive and his soul loathes the choicest meal. TMB 21 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen, and his bones that were not seen stick out. NIV 21 His flesh wastes away to nothing, and his bones, once hidden, now stick out. TMB 22 Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers. NIV 22 His soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the messengers of death. TMB 23 If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand to show unto man his uprightness, NIV 23 "Yet if there is an angel on his side as a mediator, one out of a thousand, to tell a man what is right for him, TMB 24 then he is gracious unto him and saith, `Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom.' NIV 24 to be gracious to him and say, 'Spare him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom for him'-- TMB 25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child's; he shall return to the days of his youth. NIV 25 then his flesh is renewed like a child's; it is restored as in the days of his youth. TMB 26 He shall pray unto God, and He will be favorable unto him; and he shall see His face with joy, for He will render unto man His righteousness. NIV 26 He prays to God and finds favor with him, he sees God's face and shouts for joy; he is restored by God to his righteous state. TMB 27 He looketh upon men, and if any say, `I have sinned and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not,' NIV 27 Then he comes to men and says, 'I sinned, and perverted what was right, but I did not get what I deserved. TMB 28 He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light. NIV 28 He redeemed my soul from going down to the pit, and I will live to enjoy the light.' TMB 29 "Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man, NIV 29 "God does all these things to a man-- twice, even three times-- TMB 30 to bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living. NIV 30 to turn back his soul from the pit, that the light of life may shine on him. TMB 31 Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me; hold thy peace, and I will speak. NIV 31 "Pay attention, Job, and listen to me; be silent, and I will speak. TMB 32 If thou hast any thing to say, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify thee. NIV 32 If you have anything to say, answer me; speak up, for I want you to be cleared. TMB 33 If not, hearken unto me; hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom." NIV 33 But if not, then listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom."
