Job 33

WEB 1 "However, Job, Please hear my speech, And listen to all my words. NIV 1 "But now, Job, listen to my words; pay attention to everything I say. WEB 2 See now, I have opened my mouth. My tongue has spoken in my mouth. NIV 2 I am about to open my mouth; my words are on the tip of my tongue. WEB 3 My words shall utter the uprightness of my heart; That which my lips know they shall speak sincerely. NIV 3 My words come from an upright heart; my lips sincerely speak what I know. WEB 4 The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life. NIV 4 The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. WEB 5 If you can, answer me; Set your words in order before me, and stand forth. NIV 5 Answer me then, if you can; prepare yourself and confront me. WEB 6 Behold, I am toward God even as you are: I am also formed out of the clay. NIV 6 I am just like you before God; I too have been taken from clay. WEB 7 Behold, my terror shall not make you afraid, Neither shall my pressure be heavy on you. NIV 7 No fear of me should alarm you, nor should my hand be heavy upon you. WEB 8 "Surely you have spoken in my hearing, I have heard the voice of your words, saying, NIV 8 "But you have said in my hearing-- I heard the very words-- WEB 9 'I am clean, without disobedience. I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me: NIV 9 'I am pure and without sin; I am clean and free from guilt. WEB 10 Behold, he finds occasions against me, He counts me for his enemy: NIV 10 Yet God has found fault with me; he considers me his enemy. WEB 11 He puts my feet in the stocks, He marks all my paths.' NIV 11 He fastens my feet in shackles; he keeps close watch on all my paths.' WEB 12 "Behold, I will answer you. In this you are not just; For God is greater than man. NIV 12 "But I tell you, in this you are not right, for God is greater than man. WEB 13 Why do you strive against him, Because he doesn't give account of any of his matters? NIV 13 Why do you complain to him that he answers none of man's words ? WEB 14 For God speaks once, Yes twice, though man pays no attention. NIV 14 For God does speak--now one way, now another-- though man may not perceive it. WEB 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, When deep sleep falls on men, In slumbering on the bed; NIV 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men as they slumber in their beds, WEB 16 Then he opens the ears of men, And seals their instruction, NIV 16 he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, WEB 17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, And hide pride from man. NIV 17 to turn man from wrongdoing and keep him from pride, WEB 18 He keeps back his soul from the pit, And his life from perishing by the sword. NIV 18 to preserve his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword. WEB 19 He is chastened also with pain on his bed, With continual strife in his bones; NIV 19 Or a man may be chastened on a bed of pain with constant distress in his bones, WEB 20 So that his life abhors bread, And his soul dainty food. NIV 20 so that his very being finds food repulsive and his soul loathes the choicest meal. WEB 21 His flesh is so consumed away, that it can't be seen; His bones that were not seen stick out. NIV 21 His flesh wastes away to nothing, and his bones, once hidden, now stick out. WEB 22 Yes, his soul draws near to the pit, And his life to the destroyers. NIV 22 His soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the messengers of death. WEB 23 "If there is beside him an angel, An interpreter, one among a thousand, To show to man what is right for him; NIV 23 "Yet if there is an angel on his side as a mediator, one out of a thousand, to tell a man what is right for him, WEB 24 Then God is gracious to him, and says, 'Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.' NIV 24 to be gracious to him and say, 'Spare him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom for him'-- WEB 25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child's; He returns to the days of his youth. NIV 25 then his flesh is renewed like a child's; it is restored as in the days of his youth. WEB 26 He prays to God, and he is favorable to him, So that he sees his face with joy: He restores to man his righteousness. NIV 26 He prays to God and finds favor with him, he sees God's face and shouts for joy; he is restored by God to his righteous state. WEB 27 He sings before men, and says, 'I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, And it didn't profit me. NIV 27 Then he comes to men and says, 'I sinned, and perverted what was right, but I did not get what I deserved. WEB 28 He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit, My life shall see the light.' NIV 28 He redeemed my soul from going down to the pit, and I will live to enjoy the light.' WEB 29 "Behold, God works all these things, Twice, yes three times, with a man, NIV 29 "God does all these things to a man-- twice, even three times-- WEB 30 To bring back his soul from the pit, That he may be enlightened with the light of the living. NIV 30 to turn back his soul from the pit, that the light of life may shine on him. WEB 31 Mark well, Job, and listen to me: Hold your peace, and I will speak. NIV 31 "Pay attention, Job, and listen to me; be silent, and I will speak. WEB 32 If you have anything to say, answer me: Speak, for I desire to justify you. NIV 32 If you have anything to say, answer me; speak up, for I want you to be cleared. WEB 33 If not, listen to me: Hold your peace, and I will teach you wisdom." NIV 33 But if not, then listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom."
