Job 40

GW 1 The LORD responded to Job, NIV 1 The LORD said to Job: GW 2 "Will the person who finds fault with the Almighty correct him? Will the person who argues with God answer him?" NIV 2 "Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!" GW 3 Job answered the LORD, NIV 3 Then Job answered the LORD: GW 4 "I'm so insignificant. How can I answer you? I will put my hand over my mouth. NIV 4 "I am unworthy--how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth. GW 5 I spoke once, but I can't answer-- twice, but not again." NIV 5 I spoke once, but I have no answer-- twice, but I will say no more." GW 6 Then the LORD responded to Job out of a storm, NIV 6 Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm: GW 7 "Brace yourself like a man! I will ask you, and you will teach me. NIV 7 "Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. GW 8 "Would you undo my justice? Would you condemn me so that you can be righteous? NIV 8 "Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself ? GW 9 Do you have power like God's? Can you thunder with a voice like his? NIV 9 Do you have an arm like God's, and can your voice thunder like his? GW 10 Then dress yourself in majesty and dignity. Clothe yourself in splendor and glory. NIV 10 Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty. GW 11 Unleash your outbursts of anger. Look at all who are arrogant, and put them down. NIV 11 Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at every proud man and bring him low, GW 12 Look at all who are arrogant, and humble them. Crush wicked people wherever they are. NIV 12 look at every proud man and humble him, crush the wicked where they stand. GW 13 Hide them completely in the dust, and cover their faces in the hidden place. NIV 13 Bury them all in the dust together; shroud their faces in the grave. GW 14 Then even I will praise you because your right hand can save you. NIV 14 Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you. GW 15 "Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. It eats grass as cattle do. NIV 15 "Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox. GW 16 Look at the strength in its back muscles, the power in its stomach muscles. NIV 16 What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly! GW 17 It makes its tail stiff like a cedar. The ligaments of its thighs are intertwined. NIV 17 His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are close-knit. GW 18 Its bones are bronze tubes. They are like iron bars. NIV 18 His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron. GW 19 Behemoth is the first of God's conquests. Its maker approaches it with his sword. NIV 19 He ranks first among the works of God, yet his Maker can approach him with his sword. GW 20 The hills bring it food, and all the wild animals play there. NIV 20 The hills bring him their produce, and all the wild animals play nearby. GW 21 It lies down under the lotus plants in a hiding place among reeds and swamps. NIV 21 Under the lotus plants he lies, hidden among the reeds in the marsh. GW 22 Lotus plants provide it with cover. Poplars by the stream surround it. NIV 22 The lotuses conceal him in their shadow; the poplars by the stream surround him. GW 23 Though the river flows powerfully against it, it's not alarmed. It's confident [even] when the Jordan rushes against its mouth. NIV 23 When the river rages, he is not alarmed; he is secure, though the Jordan should surge against his mouth. GW 24 Can anyone blind its eyes or pierce its nose with snares? NIV 24 Can anyone capture him by the eyes, or trap him and pierce his nose?
