John 15

NRS 1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. NIV 1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. NRS 2 He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. NIV 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. NRS 3 You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. NIV 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. NRS 4 Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. NIV 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. NRS 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. NIV 5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. NRS 6 Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. NIV 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. NRS 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. NIV 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. NRS 8 My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. NIV 8 This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. NRS 9 As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. NIV 9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. NRS 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. NIV 10 If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. NRS 11 I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. NIV 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. NRS 12 "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. NIV 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. NRS 13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. NIV 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. NRS 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. NIV 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. NRS 15 I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. NIV 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. NRS 16 You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. NIV 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. NRS 17 I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another. NIV 17 This is my command: Love each other. NRS 18 "If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you. NIV 18 "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. NRS 19 If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world—therefore the world hates you. NIV 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. NRS 20 Remember the word that I said to you, "Servants are not greater than their master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. NIV 20 Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. NRS 21 But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. NIV 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me. NRS 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. NIV 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. NRS 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father also. NIV 23 He who hates me hates my Father as well. NRS 24 If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not have sin. But now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. NIV 24 If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. NRS 25 It was to fulfill the word that is written in their law, "They hated me without a cause.' NIV 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: 'They hated me without reason.' NRS 26 "When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf. NIV 26 "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. NRS 27 You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning. NIV 27 And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.
