John 2:12-25

NRS 12 After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples; and they remained there a few days. NIV 12 After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days. NRS 13 The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. NIV 13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. NRS 14 In the temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. NIV 14 In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. NRS 15 Making a whip of cords, he drove all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He also poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. NIV 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. NRS 16 He told those who were selling the doves, "Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father's house a marketplace!" NIV 16 To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!" NRS 17 His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for your house will consume me." NIV 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: "Zeal for your house will consume me." NRS 18 The Jews then said to him, "What sign can you show us for doing this?" NIV 18 Then the Jews demanded of him, "What miraculous sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?" NRS 19 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." NIV 19 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days." NRS 20 The Jews then said, "This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?" NIV 20 The Jews replied, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?" NRS 21 But he was speaking of the temple of his body. NIV 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body. NRS 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken. NIV 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken. NRS 23 When he was in Jerusalem during the Passover festival, many believed in his name because they saw the signs that he was doing. NIV 23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the miraculous signs he was doing and believed in his name. NRS 24 But Jesus on his part would not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people NIV 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men. NRS 25 and needed no one to testify about anyone; for he himself knew what was in everyone. NIV 25 He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man.
