Luke 15:1-7

ESV 1 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. NIV 1 Now the tax collectors and "sinners" were all gathering around to hear him. ESV 2 And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them." NIV 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them." ESV 3 So he told them this parable: NIV 3 Then Jesus told them this parable: ESV 4 "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? NIV 4 "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? ESV 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. NIV 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders ESV 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.' NIV 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' ESV 7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. NIV 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
