Luke 2:25-35

NLT 25 Now there was a man named Simeon who lived in Jerusalem. He was a righteous man and very devout. He was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he eagerly expected the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. NIV 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. NLT 26 The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord's Messiah. NIV 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ. NLT 27 That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, NIV 27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, NLT 28 Simeon was there. NLT 34 Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, "This child will be rejected by many in Israel, and it will be their undoing. But he will be the greatest joy to many others. NIV 34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, NLT 35 Thus, the deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your very soul." NIV 35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."
