Luke 9:51-62

CSB 51 When the days were coming to a close for Him to be taken up, He determined to journey to Jerusalem. NIV 51 As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. CSB 52 He sent messengers ahead of Him, and on the way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make preparations for Him. NIV 52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; CSB 53 But they did not welcome Him, because He determined to journey to Jerusalem. NIV 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. CSB 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?" NIV 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them ?" CSB 55 But He turned and rebuked them, NIV 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them, CSB 56 and they went to another village. NIV 56 and they went to another village. CSB 57 As they were traveling on the road someone said to Him, "I will follow You wherever You go!" NIV 57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." CSB 58 Jesus told him, "Foxes have dens, and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head." NIV 58 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." CSB 59 Then He said to another, "Follow Me." "Lord," he said, "first let me go bury my father." NIV 59 He said to another man, "Follow me." But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." CSB 60 But He told him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and spread the news of the kingdom of God." NIV 60 Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God." CSB 61 Another also said, "I will follow You, Lord, but first let me go and say good-bye to those at my house." NIV 61 Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family." CSB 62 But Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God." NIV 62 Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."
