Mark 1:21-34

RSV 21 And they went into Caper'na-um; and immediately on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught. NIV 21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. RSV 22 And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. NIV 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. RSV 23 And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; NIV 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out, RSV 24 and he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God." NIV 24 "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!" RSV 25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" NIV 25 "Be quiet!" said Jesus sternly. "Come out of him!" RSV 26 And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. NIV 26 The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. RSV 27 And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching! With authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him." NIV 27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A new teaching--and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him." RSV 28 And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee. NIV 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee. RSV 29 And immediately he left the synagogue, and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. NIV 29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. RSV 30 Now Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him of her. NIV 30 Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her. RSV 31 And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her; and she served them. NIV 31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them. RSV 32 That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. NIV 32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. RSV 33 And the whole city was gathered together about the door. NIV 33 The whole town gathered at the door, RSV 34 And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. NIV 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.
