Matthew 17:1-9

CEB 1 Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them to the top of a very high mountain. NRS 1 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. CEB 2 He was transformed in front of them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light. NRS 2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. CEB 3 Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Jesus. NRS 3 Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. CEB 4 Peter reacted to all of this by saying to Jesus, "Lord, it's good that we're here. If you want, I'll make three shrines: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." NRS 4 Then Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three dwellings here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." CEB 5 While he was still speaking, look, a bright cloud overshadowed them. A voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son whom I dearly love. I am very pleased with him. Listen to him!" NRS 5 While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, "This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!" CEB 6 Hearing this, the disciples fell on their faces, filled with awe. NRS 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. CEB 7 But Jesus came and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid." NRS 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Get up and do not be afraid." CEB 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. NRS 8 And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone. CEB 9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, "Don't tell anybody about the vision until the Human One is raised from the dead." NRS 9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, "Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."
