Matthew 24:29-51

NLT 29 "Immediately after those horrible days end, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of heaven will be shaken. NIV 29 "Immediately after the distress of those days " 'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.' NLT 30 And then at last, the sign of the coming of the Son of Man will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the nations of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. NIV 30 "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. NLT 31 And he will send forth his angels with the sound of a mighty trumpet blast, and they will gather together his chosen ones from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven." NIV 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. NLT 32 "Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its buds become tender and its leaves begin to sprout, you know without being told that summer is near. NIV 32 "Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. NLT 33 Just so, when you see the events I've described beginning to happen, you can know his return is very near, right at the door. NIV 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. NLT 34 I assure you, this generation will not pass from the scene before all these things take place. NIV 34 I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. NLT 35 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will remain forever." NIV 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. NLT 36 "However, no one knows the day or the hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows." NIV 36 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. NLT 37 "When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah's day. NIV 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. NLT 38 In those days before the Flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. NIV 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; NLT 39 People didn't realize what was going to happen until the Flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes." NIV 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. NLT 40 "Two men will be working together in the field; one will be taken, the other left. NIV 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. NLT 41 Two women will be grinding flour at the mill; one will be taken, the other left. NIV 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. NLT 42 So be prepared, because you don't know what day your Lord is coming." NIV 42 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. NLT 43 "Know this: A homeowner who knew exactly when a burglar was coming would stay alert and not permit the house to be broken into. NIV 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. NLT 44 You also must be ready all the time. For the Son of Man will come when least expected." NIV 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. NLT 45 "Who is a faithful, sensible servant, to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his household and feeding his family? NIV 45 "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? NLT 46 If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. NIV 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. NLT 47 I assure you, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. NIV 47 I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. NLT 48 But if the servant is evil and thinks, 'My master won't be back for a while,' NIV 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time,' NLT 49 and begins oppressing the other servants, partying, and getting drunk -- NIV 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. NLT 50 well, the master will return unannounced and unexpected. NIV 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. NLT 51 He will tear the servant apart and banish him with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." NIV 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
