Matthew 25

NRS 1 "Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. NIV 1 "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. NRS 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. NIV 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. NRS 3 When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; NIV 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. NRS 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. NIV 4 The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. NRS 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and slept. NIV 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. NRS 6 But at midnight there was a shout, "Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' NIV 6 "At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!' NRS 7 Then all those bridesmaids got up and trimmed their lamps. NIV 7 "Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. NRS 8 The foolish said to the wise, "Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' NIV 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.' NRS 9 But the wise replied, "No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.' NIV 9 " 'No,' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.' NRS 10 And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. NIV 10 "But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. NRS 11 Later the other bridesmaids came also, saying, "Lord, lord, open to us.' NIV 11 "Later the others also came. 'Sir! Sir!' they said. 'Open the door for us!' NRS 12 But he replied, "Truly I tell you, I do not know you.' NIV 12 "But he replied, 'I tell you the truth, I don't know you.' NRS 13 Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. NIV 13 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. NRS 14 "For it is as if a man, going on a journey, summoned his slaves and entrusted his property to them; NIV 14 "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. NRS 15 to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. NIV 15 To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. NRS 16 The one who had received the five talents went off at once and traded with them, and made five more talents. NIV 16 The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. NRS 17 In the same way, the one who had the two talents made two more talents. NIV 17 So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. NRS 18 But the one who had received the one talent went off and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. NIV 18 But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. NRS 19 After a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. NIV 19 "After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. NRS 20 Then the one who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five more talents, saying, "Master, you handed over to me five talents; see, I have made five more talents.' NIV 20 The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.' NRS 21 His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.' NIV 21 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' NRS 22 And the one with the two talents also came forward, saying, "Master, you handed over to me two talents; see, I have made two more talents.' NIV 22 "The man with the two talents also came. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.' NRS 23 His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.' NIV 23 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' NRS 24 Then the one who had received the one talent also came forward, saying, "Master, I knew that you were a harsh man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter seed; NIV 24 "Then the man who had received the one talent came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. NRS 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is yours.' NIV 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.' NRS 26 But his master replied, "You wicked and lazy slave! You knew, did you, that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter? NIV 26 "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? NRS 27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received what was my own with interest. NIV 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. NRS 28 So take the talent from him, and give it to the one with the ten talents. NIV 28 " 'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. NRS 29 For to all those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away. NIV 29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. NRS 30 As for this worthless slave, throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' NIV 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' NRS 31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. NIV 31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. NRS 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, NIV 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. NRS 33 and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. NIV 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. NRS 34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, "Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; NIV 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. NRS 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, NIV 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, NRS 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.' NIV 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' NRS 37 Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? NIV 37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? NRS 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? NIV 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? NRS 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?' NIV 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' NRS 40 And the king will answer them, "Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.' NIV 40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' NRS 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, "You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; NIV 41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. NRS 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, NIV 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, NRS 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' NIV 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' NRS 44 Then they also will answer, "Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?' NIV 44 "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' NRS 45 Then he will answer them, "Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' NIV 45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' NRS 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." NIV 46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
