Matthew 5:8-18

NLT 8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. NIV 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. NLT 9 God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. NIV 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. NLT 10 God blesses those who are persecuted because they live for God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. " NIV 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. NLT 11 "God blesses you when you are mocked and persecuted and lied about because you are my followers. NIV 11 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. NLT 12 Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted, too." NIV 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. NLT 13 "You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it useful again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. NIV 13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. NLT 14 You are the light of the world -- like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. NIV 14 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. NLT 15 Don't hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. NIV 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. NLT 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father." NIV 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. NLT 17 "Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to fulfill them. NIV 17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. NLT 18 I assure you, until heaven and earth disappear, even the smallest detail of God's law will remain until its purpose is achieved. NIV 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
