Matthew 7

NCV 1 "Don't judge other people, or you will be judged. NIV 1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. NCV 2 You will be judged in the same way that you judge others, and the amount you give to others will be given to you. NIV 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. NCV 3 "Why do you notice the little piece of dust in your friend's eye, but you don't notice the big piece of wood in your own eye? NIV 3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? NCV 4 How can you say to your friend, 'Let me take that little piece of dust out of your eye'? Look at yourself! You still have that big piece of wood in your own eye. NIV 4 How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? NCV 5 You hypocrite! First, take the wood out of your own eye. Then you will see clearly to take the dust out of your friend's eye. NIV 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. NCV 6 "Don't give holy things to dogs, and don't throw your pearls before pigs. Pigs will only trample on them, and dogs will turn to attack you. NIV 6 "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces. NCV 7 "Ask, and God will give to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will open for you. NIV 7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. NCV 8 Yes, everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who searches will find. And everyone who knocks will have the door opened. NIV 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. NCV 9 "If your children ask for bread, which of you would give them a stone? NIV 9 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? NCV 10 Or if your children ask for a fish, would you give them a snake? NIV 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? NCV 11 Even though you are bad, you know how to give good gifts to your children. How much more your heavenly Father will give good things to those who ask him! NIV 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! NCV 12 "Do to others what you want them to do to you. This is the meaning of the law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets. NIV 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. NCV 13 "Enter through the narrow gate. The gate is wide and the road is wide that leads to hell, and many people enter through that gate. NIV 13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. NCV 14 But the gate is small and the road is narrow that leads to true life. Only a few people find that road. NIV 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. NCV 15 "Be careful of false prophets. They come to you looking gentle like sheep, but they are really dangerous like wolves. NIV 15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. NCV 16 You will know these people by what they do. Grapes don't come from thornbushes, and figs don't come from thorny weeds. NIV 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? NCV 17 In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit. NIV 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. NCV 18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit. NIV 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. NCV 19 Every tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. NIV 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. NCV 20 In the same way, you will know these false prophets by what they do. NIV 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. NCV 21 "Not all those who say that I am their Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven. The only people who will enter the kingdom of heaven are those who do what my Father in heaven wants. NIV 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. NCV 22 On the last day many people will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, we spoke for you, and through you we forced out demons and did many miracles.' NIV 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' NCV 23 Then I will tell them clearly, 'Get away from me, you who do evil. I never knew you.' NIV 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' NCV 24 "Everyone who hears my words and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. NIV 24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. NCV 25 It rained hard, the floods came, and the winds blew and hit that house. But it did not fall, because it was built on rock. NIV 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. NCV 26 Everyone who hears my words and does not obey them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. NIV 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. NCV 27 It rained hard, the floods came, and the winds blew and hit that house, and it fell with a big crash." NIV 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash." NCV 28 When Jesus finished saying these things, the people were amazed at his teaching, NIV 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, NCV 29 because he did not teach like their teachers of the law. He taught like a person who had authority. NIV 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
