Proverbs 3

GW 1 My son, do not forget my teachings, and keep my commands in mind, NIV 1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, GW 2 because they will bring you long life, good years, and peace. NIV 2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity. GW 3 Do not let mercy and truth leave you. Fasten them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart. NIV 3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. GW 4 Then you will find favor and much success in the sight of God and humanity. NIV 4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. GW 5 Trust the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. NIV 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; GW 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths smooth. NIV 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. GW 7 Do not consider yourself wise. Fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. NIV 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. GW 8 [Then] your body will be healed, and your bones will have nourishment. NIV 8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. GW 9 Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the first and best part of all your income. NIV 9 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; GW 10 Then your barns will be full, and your vats will overflow with fresh wine. NIV 10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. GW 11 Do not reject the discipline of the LORD, my son, and do not resent his warning, NIV 11 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline and do not resent his rebuke, GW 12 because the LORD warns the one he loves, even as a father warns a son with whom he is pleased. NIV 12 because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in. GW 13 Blessed is the one who finds wisdom and the one who obtains understanding. NIV 13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, GW 14 The profit [gained] from [wisdom] is greater than the profit [gained] from silver. Its yield is better than fine gold. NIV 14 for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. GW 15 [Wisdom] is more precious than jewels, and all your desires cannot equal it. NIV 15 She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. GW 16 Long life is in [wisdom's] right hand. In [wisdom's] left hand are riches and honor. NIV 16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. GW 17 [Wisdom's] ways are pleasant ways, and all its paths lead to peace. NIV 17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. GW 18 [Wisdom] is a tree of life for those who take firm hold of it. Those who cling to it are blessed. NIV 18 She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed. GW 19 By Wisdom the LORD laid the foundation of the earth. By understanding he established the heavens. NIV 19 By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; GW 20 By his knowledge the deep waters were divided, and the skies dropped dew. NIV 20 by his knowledge the deeps were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew. GW 21 My son, do not lose sight of these things. Use priceless wisdom and foresight. NIV 21 My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; GW 22 Then they will mean life for you, and they will grace your neck. NIV 22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. GW 23 Then you will go safely on your way, and you will not hurt your foot. NIV 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble; GW 24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid. As you lie there, your sleep will be sweet. NIV 24 when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. GW 25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the destruction of wicked people when it comes. I'll give you something then." NIV 28 Do not say to your neighbor, "Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow"-- when you now have it with you. NIV 33 The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous. GW 34 When he mocks the mockers, he is gracious to humble people.
