RHE 1 (17-1) <Unto the end, for David, the servant of the Lord, who spoke to the Lord the words of this canticle, in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: and he said:> (17-2) I will love thee, O Lord, my strength: NIV 1 I love you, O LORD, my strength. RHE 2 (17-3) The Lord is my firmament, my refuge, and my deliverer. My God is my helper, and in him will I put my trust. My protector, and the horn of my salvation, and my support. RHE 5 (17-6) The sorrows of hell encompassed me: and the snares of death prevented me. NIV 5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. RHE 6 (17-7) In my affliction I called upon the Lord, and I cried to my God: And he heard my voice from his holy temple: and my cry before him came into his ears. NIV 6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. NIV 7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry. RHE 8 (17-9) There went up a smoke in his wrath: and a fire flamed from his face: coals were kindled by it. NIV 8 Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it. RHE 9 (17-10) He bowed the heavens, and came down, and darkness was under his feet. NIV 9 He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet. RHE 10 (17-11) And he ascended upon the cherubim, and he flew; he flew upon the wings of the winds. NIV 10 He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind. RHE 11 (17-12) And he made darkness his covert, his pavilion round about him: dark waters in the clouds of the air. NIV 11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him-- the dark rain clouds of the sky. RHE 12 (17-13) At the brightness that was before him the clouds passed, hail and coals of fire. NIV 12 Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning. RHE 13 (17-14) And the Lord thundered from heaven, and the Highest gave his voice: hail and coals of fire. NIV 13 The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. RHE 14 (17-15) And he sent forth his arrows, and he scattered them: he multiplied lightnings, and troubled them. NIV 14 He shot his arrows and scattered [the enemies], great bolts of lightning and routed them. RHE 15 (17-16) Then the fountains of waters appeared, and the foundations of the world were discovered: At thy rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the spirit of thy wrath. NIV 15 The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils. RHE 16 (17-17) He sent from on high, and took me: and received me out of many waters. NIV 16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. NIV 29 With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. RHE 30 (17-31) As for my God, his way is undefiled: the words of the Lord are fire-tried: he is the protector of all that trust in him. NIV 31 For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? RHE 32 (17-33) God, who hath girt me with strength; and made my way blameless. NIV 32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. RHE 33 (17-34) Who hath made my feet like the feet of harts: and who setteth me upon high places.
