Psalm 31

NCV 1 Lord, I trust in you; let me never be disgraced. Save me because you do what is right. NIV 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. NCV 2 Listen to me and save me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a strong city to save me. NIV 2 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. NCV 3 You are my rock and my protection. For the good of your name, lead me and guide me. NIV 3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. NCV 4 Set me free from the trap they set for me, because you are my protection. NIV 4 Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. NCV 5 I give you my life. Save me, Lord, God of truth. NIV 5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth. NCV 6 I hate those who worship false gods. I trust only in the Lord. NIV 6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the LORD. NCV 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love, because you saw my suffering; you knew my troubles. NIV 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. NCV 8 You have not handed me over to my enemies but have set me in a safe place. NIV 8 You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. NCV 9 Lord, have mercy, because I am in misery. My eyes are weak from so much crying, and my whole being is tired from grief. NIV 9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. NCV 10 My life is ending in sadness, and my years are spent in crying. My troubles are using up my strength, and my bones are getting weaker. NIV 10 My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. NCV 11 Because of all my troubles, my enemies hate me, and even my neighbors look down on me. When my friends see me, they are afraid and run. NIV 11 Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me. NCV 12 I am like a piece of a broken pot. I am forgotten as if I were dead. NIV 12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. NCV 13 I have heard many insults. Terror is all around me. They make plans against me and want to kill me. NIV 13 For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life. NCV 14 Lord, I trust you. I have said, "You are my God." NIV 14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God." NCV 15 My life is in your hands. Save me from my enemies and from those who are chasing me. NIV 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. NCV 16 Show your kindness to me, your servant. Save me because of your love. NIV 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. NCV 17 Lord, I called to you, so do not let me be disgraced. Let the wicked be disgraced and lie silent in the grave. NIV 17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and lie silent in the grave. NCV 18 With pride and hatred they speak against those who do right. So silence their lying lips. NIV 18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous. NCV 19 How great is your goodness that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you have given to those who trust you. You do this for all to see. NIV 19 How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. NCV 20 You protect them by your presence from what people plan against them. You shelter them from evil words. NIV 20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues. NCV 21 Praise the Lord. His love to me was wonderful when my city was attacked. NIV 21 Praise be to the LORD, for he showed his wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city. NCV 22 In my distress, I said, "God cannot see me!" But you heard my prayer when I cried out to you for help. NIV 22 In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help. NCV 23 Love the Lord, all you who belong to him. The Lord protects those who truly believe, but he punishes the proud as much as they have sinned. NIV 23 Love the LORD, all his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful, but the proud he pays back in full. NCV 24 All you who put your hope in the Lord be strong and brave. A maskil of David. NIV 24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
