Psalm 51

RHE 1 (50-1) <Unto the end, a psalm of David, (50-2) When Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had sinned with Bethsabee.> (50-3) Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my iniquity. NIV 1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. RHE 2 (50-4) Wash me yet more from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. NIV 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. RHE 3 (50-5) For I know my iniquity, and my sin is always before me. NIV 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. RHE 4 (50-6) To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: that thou mayst be justified in thy words, and mayst overcome when thou art judged. NIV 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. RHE 5 (50-7) For behold I was conceived in iniquities; and in sins did my mother conceive me. NIV 5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. RHE 6 (50-8) For behold thou hast loved truth: the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me. NIV 6 Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. RHE 7 (50-9) Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow. NIV 7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. RHE 8 (50-10) To my hearing thou shalt give joy and gladness: and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice. NIV 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. RHE 9 (50-11) Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. NIV 9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. RHE 10 (50-12) Create a clean heart in me, O God: and renew a right spirit within my bowels. NIV 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. RHE 11 (50-13) Cast me not away from thy face; and take not thy holy spirit from me. NIV 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. RHE 12 (50-14) Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and strengthen me with a perfect spirit. NIV 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. RHE 13 (50-15) I will teach the unjust thy ways: and the wicked shall be converted to thee. NIV 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. RHE 14 (50-16) Deliver me from blood, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall extol thy justice. NIV 14 Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. RHE 15 (50-17) O Lord, thou wilt open my lips: and my mouth shall declare thy praise. NIV 15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. RHE 16 (50-18) For if thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted. NIV 16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. RHE 17 (50-19) A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. NIV 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. RHE 18 (50-20) Deal favourably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion; that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up. NIV 18 In your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem. RHE 19 (50-21) Then shalt thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations and whole burnt offerings: then shall they lay calves upon thy altar. NIV 19 Then there will be righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings to delight you; then bulls will be offered on your altar.
