22
The nextday1the crowd that stood on the otherside of the seasaw that there was noothersmallboatthere, exceptone, and that Jesus2had not entered with His disciples into the boat, but that His disciples had goneawayalone.
23
There cameothersmallboats from 3Tiberiasnear to the placewhere they ate the bread after the 4Lord5had giventhanks.
24
Sowhen the crowdsaw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselvesgot into the smallboats, and 6came to CapernaumseekingJesus.
25
When they found Him on the otherside of the sea, they said to Him, "7Rabbi, when did You gethere?"
Words to the People
26Jesusanswered them and said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you 8seek Me, not because you saw9signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
27
"Do not 10work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to 11eternallife, which12the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, 13has set His seal."
28
Therefore they said to Him, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?"
29
Jesusanswered and said to them, "This is 14the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He 15has sent."
30
So they said to Him, "16Whatthen do You do for a 17sign, so that we may see, and believe You? Whatwork do You perform?
31
"18Our fathersate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, '19HE GAVE THEM BREAD OUT OF HEAVEN TO EAT.' "
32
Jesusthensaid to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the truebread out of heaven.
33
"For the bread of God is that which 20comesdown out of heaven, and giveslife to the world."
34
Then they said to Him, "Lord, always21give us thisbread."
35
Jesussaid to them, "22I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me 23will never*thirst.
36
"But 24I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe.
37
"25All that the Fathergives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly* not cast out.
38
"For 26I have comedown from heaven, 27not to do My ownwill, but 28the will of Him who 29sent Me.
39
"This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of 30all that He has given Me I 31losenothing, but 32raise it up on the lastday.
40
"For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who 33beholds the Son and 34believes in Him will haveeternallife, and I Myself will 35raise him up on the lastday."
Words to the Jews
4136Therefore the Jews were grumblingabout Him, because He said, "I am the bread that 37camedown out of heaven."
42
They were saying, "38Is not thisJesus, the son of Joseph, whosefather and mother39we know? How does He nowsay, '40I have comedown out of heaven '?"
43
Jesusanswered and said to them, "Do not grumbleamongyourselves.
44
"Noonecancome to Me unless* the Father who sent Me 41draws him; and I will 42raise him up on the lastday.
45
"It is written43in the prophets, '44AND THEY SHALL ALL BE 45TAUGHT OF GOD.' Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me.
46
"46Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father.
47
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes47haseternallife.
49
"49Your fathersate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
50
"This is the bread which 50comesdown out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and 51not die.
51
"52I am the livingbread that 53camedown out of heaven; ifanyoneeats of thisbread, 54he will liveforever; and the breadalsowhich I will give55for the life of the world is 56My flesh."
52
57Then the Jews58began to argue with oneanother, saying, "Howcanthismangive us His flesh to eat?"
53
SoJesussaid to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless* you eat the flesh of 59the Son of Man and drink His blood, you havenolife in yourselves.
54
"He who eats My flesh and drinks My bloodhaseternallife, and I will 60raise him up on the lastday.
55
"For My flesh is truefood, and My blood is truedrink.
56
"He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood61abides in Me, and I in him.
57
"As the 62livingFather63sent Me, and I livebecause of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will livebecause of Me.
58
"This is the breadwhich64camedown out of heaven; not as 65the fathersate and died; he who eatsthisbread66will liveforever."
Words to the Disciples
59Thesethings He said67in the synagogue as He taught68in Capernaum.
60
Thereforemany of His 69disciples, when they heard this said, "70This is a difficultstatement; whocanlisten to it?"
61
But Jesus, 71conscious** that His disciplesgrumbled at this, said to them, "Does this72cause you to stumble?
62
"What thenif you see73the Son of Man74ascending to where He was before?
63
"75It is the Spirit who giveslife; the fleshprofitsnothing; 76the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
64
"But there are 77some of you who do not believe." For Jesus78knew from the beginningwho they were who did not believe, and 79who it was that would betray Him.
65
And He was saying, "For thisreason I have 80said to you, that noonecancome to Me unless*81it has beengranted him from the Father."
Peter's Confession of Faith
66 As a result of thismany of His 82disciples83withdrew* and were not walking with Him anymore.
67
SoJesussaid to 84the twelve, "You do not want to goawayalso, do you?"
68
85SimonPeteranswered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have86words of eternallife.
69
"We have believed and have come to know that You are 87the HolyOne of God."
70
Jesusanswered them, "88Did I Myself not choose you, 89the twelve, and yet one of you is 90a devil?"
71
Now He meantJudas91the son of SimonIscariot, for he, 92one of 93the twelve, was going to betray Him.
