Luke 10:17-37

The Happy Results

The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even 1the demons are subject to us in Your name."
And He said to them, "I was watching 2Satan fall from heaven like lightning.
"Behold, I have given you authority to 3tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you.
"Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that 4your names are recorded in heaven."
5At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, "I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight.
"6All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and 7no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him."
8Turning to the disciples, He said privately *, "Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see,
for I say to you, that many prophets and kings wished to see the things which you see, and did not see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and did not hear them."
9And a 10lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
And He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?"
And he answered, "11YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."
And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; 12DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE."
But wishing 13to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

The Good Samaritan

Jesus replied and said, "A man was 14going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat * him, and went away leaving him half dead.
"And by chance a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
"Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
"But a 15Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion,
and came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn and took care of him.
"On the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, 'Take care of him; and whatever * * more you spend, when I return I will repay you.'
"Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers' hands?"
And he said, "The one who showed mercy toward him." Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do the same."
