and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the richman'stable; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores.

"Now the poormandied and was carriedaway by the angels to 2Abraham'sbosom; and the richmanalsodied and was buried.

"In 3Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and sawAbrahamfaraway* and Lazarus in his bosom.

"And he cried out and said, '4FatherAbraham, havemercy on me, and sendLazarusso that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in 5thisflame.'

"But Abrahamsaid, 'Child, remember that 6during your life you received your goodthings, and likewiseLazarusbadthings; but now he is being comfortedhere, and you are in agony.

'And besidesallthis, between us and you there is a greatchasmfixed, so that those who wish to comeover from here to you will not be able, and that none may crossover from there to us.'

"And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father'shouse -

for I havefivebrothers -in order that he may 7warn them, so that they will not alsocome to thisplace of torment.'

"But Abrahamsaid, 'They have8Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.'

"But he said, 'No, 9fatherAbraham, but ifsomeonegoes to them from the dead, they will repent!'
