541Having arrested Him, they led Him away and brought Him to the house of the highpriest; but 2Peter was following at a distance.

3After they had kindled a fire in the middle of 4the courtyard and had satdowntogether, Peter was sittingamong them.

And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and lookingintently at him, said, "Thisman was with Him too."

But he denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know Him."

A littlelater, 5anothersaw him and said, "You are one of them too!" But Petersaid, "Man, I am not!"

After about an hour had passed, anotherman began to insist, saying, "Certainly*thismanalso was with Him, 6for he is a Galileantoo."

But Petersaid, "Man, I do not knowwhat you are talking about." Immediately, while he was stillspeaking, a roostercrowed.

7The Lordturned and looked at Peter. And Peterremembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, "8Before a roostercrowstoday, you will deny Me threetimes."

9Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking Him and beating Him,

and they blindfolded Him and were asking Him, saying, "10Prophesy, who is the one who hit You?"

And they were sayingmanyotherthingsagainst Him, 11blaspheming.
