11Early in the morning the chiefpriests with the elders and scribes and the whole2Council, immediatelyheld a consultation; and bindingJesus, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate.

3Pilatequestioned Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And He answered him, "It is as you say."

The inscription of the chargeagainst Him read, "18THE KING OF THE JEWS."

They crucifiedtworobbers with Him, one on His right and one on His left.

[And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And He was numbered with transgressors."]

Thosepassing by were hurlingabuse at Him, 19wagging their heads, and saying, "Ha! You who are going to 20destroy the temple and rebuild it in threedays,

In the sameway the chiefpriestsalso, along with the scribes, were mocking Him amongthemselves and saying, "21He savedothers; He cannot*saveHimself.

"Let this Christ, 22the King of Israel, nowcomedown from the cross, so that we may see and believe!" 23Those who were crucified with Him were alsoinsulting Him.

24When the 25sixthhourcame, darknessfellover the wholelanduntil the 26ninthhour.

At the 27ninthhourJesuscried out with a loudvoice, "28ELOI, ELOI, LAMASABACHTHANI?"which is translated, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY* HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"

When some of the bystandersheard it, they began saying, "Behold, He is calling for Elijah."

Someoneran and filled a sponge with sourwine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, "Let us seewhetherElijah will come to take Him down."

29And Jesusuttered a loudcry, and breathed His last.

30And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

31When the centurion, who was standingright in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, "Trulythisman was the Son of God!"

32There were also some womenlooking on from a distance, amongwhom were MaryMagdalene, and Mary the mother of James33the Less and Joses, and 34Salome.

When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and 35minister to Him; and there were manyotherwomen who came up with Him to Jerusalem.
