Then came togetheruntohim the Pharisees,andcertain of the scribes, which camefromJerusalem.

And when they sawsome of hisdiscipleseatbread with defiled,[a] that is to say, with unwashen,hands, they found fault.

For the Pharisees,andall the Jews,except they wash their handsoft,[b]eatnot,holding the tradition of the elders.

And when they come from the market,except they wash, they eatnot.Andmany other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups,andpots*,[c] brasen vessels,and of tables.

Then the Phariseesandscribesaskedhim,Whywalknotthydisciplesaccording to the tradition of the elders,buteatbread with unwashenhands?

He answeredandsaid unto them*, Well hath Esaiasprophesiedofyouhypocrites,as it is written, Thispeoplehonourethme with their lips,buttheirheartisfarfromme.

Howbeit in vain do they worshipme,teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of potsandcups:andmanyothersuch like things ye do.

And he said unto them,Full well ye reject[d] the commandment of God,that ye may keep your owntradition.
