They said to Him, "We are able." And Jesussaid to them, "The cup that I drink1you shall drink; and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized.

"But to sit on My rightor on My left, this is not Mine to give; 2but it is for those for whom it has been prepared."

3Hearing this, the tenbegan to feelindignant with James and John.

Calling them to Himself, Jesussaid to them, "You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentileslord it over them; and their greatmenexerciseauthorityover them.

"But it is not thiswayamong you, 4but whoever*wishes to becomegreatamong you shall be your servant;

and whoever*wishes to be firstamong you shall be slave of all.

"For even the Son of Man5did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
Bartimaeus Receives His Sight
466Then they came to Jericho. And 7as He was leavingJericho with His disciples and a largecrowd, a blindbeggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road.

When he heard that it was Jesus the 8Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, 9Son of David, havemercy on me!"

Many were sternlytelling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, "10Son of David, havemercy on me!"

And Jesusstopped and said, "Call him here."So they called the blindman, saying to him, "11Takecourage, stand up! He is calling for you."
