And there arose a greatcry:and the scribes that were of the Pharisees'partarose, and strove, saying, We findnoevilinthisman:butif a spiritor an angel hath spoken to him, let usnotfight against God.

And when there arose a greatdissension, the chief captain,fearinglestPaul should have been pulled in piecesofthem,commanded the soldiers to go down, and to takehim by forcefromamongthem,and to bring him into the castle.

And the nightfollowing the Lord stood byhim, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul:foras thou hast testifiedofmeinJerusalem,somustthou bear witnessalsoatRome.

And when it wasday,certain of the Jews banded together*, and boundthemselves under a curse,[a]saying that they wouldneithereatnordrinktillthey had killedPaul.

And they were more thanfortywhich had madethisconspiracy.

And they came to the chief priestsandelders, and said, We have boundourselves under a great curse, that we will eatnothinguntilwe have slainPaul.

Nowthereforeyewith the councilsignify to the chief captainthat he bringhimdownuntoyou to morrow,as though ye wouldenquire something more perfectlyconcerninghim:andwe, or everhe come near, areready to killhim.

And when Paul'ssister'ssonheard of their lying in wait, he wentandenteredinto the castle, and toldPaul.

ThenPaulcalledone of the centurions unto him, and said, Bringthis young manunto the chief captain:for he hath a certain thing to tellhim.

Sohetookhim, and brought him to the chief captain,andsaid, Paul the prisonercalledme unto him, and prayed me to bringthis young man untothee, who hathsomething to say unto thee.

Then the chief captaintookhim by the hand,and went with him asideprivately*, and asked him, Whatisthat thou hast to tellme?
