And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks,andlaid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened onhishand.

Andwhen the barbarianssaw the venomous beasthangonhishand, they saidamongthemselves, No doubtthismanis a murderer,whom, though he hath escaped* the sea, yet vengeancesufferethnot to live .

Andhe shook off the beastinto the fire, and feltnoharm.

Howbeit they looked when heshould have swollen , or fallen downdeadsuddenly:but after they had looked a great while*, andsawnoharmcometohim, they changed their minds , and said that hewas a god.
