Deutéronome 11:1-9

1 Tu aimeras l'Eternel, ton Dieu, et tu observeras toujours ses préceptes, ses lois, ses ordonnances et ses commandements.

2 Reconnaissez aujourd'hui-ce que n'ont pu connaître et voir vos enfants-les châtiments de l'Eternel, votre Dieu, sa grandeur, sa main forte et son bras étendu,

3 ses signes et ses actes qu'il a accomplis au milieu de l'Egypte contre Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, et contre tout son pays.

4 Reconnaissez ce qu'il a fait à l'armée d'Egypte, à ses chevaux et à ses chars, comment il a fait couler sur eux les eaux de la mer Rouge, lorsqu'ils vous poursuivaient, et les a détruits pour toujours;

5 ce qu'il vous a fait dans le désert, jusqu'à votre arrivée en ce lieu;

6 ce qu'il a fait à Dathan et à Abiram, fils d'Eliab, fils de Ruben, comment la terre ouvrit sa bouche et les engloutit, avec leurs maisons et leurs tentes et tout ce qui était à leur suite, au milieu de tout Israël.

7 Car vos yeux ont vu toutes les grandes choses que l'Eternel a faites.

8 Ainsi, vous observerez tous les commandements que je vous prescris aujourd'hui, afin que vous ayez la force de vous emparer du pays où vous allez passer pour en prendre possession,

9 et afin que vous prolongiez vos jours dans le pays que l'Eternel a juré à vos pères de leur donner, à eux et à leur postérité, pays où coulent le lait et le miel.

INTRODUCTION TO DEUTERONOMY 11

In this chapter, the exhortation to love the Lord, and keep his commands, is repeated and urged again and again from various considerations; as not only from the chastisement of Pharaoh and the wicked Egyptians, but of such Israelites who offended the Lord, and transgressed his law, De 12:1-7, from the goodness and excellency of the land they were going to inherit, De 11:8-11, from the blessing of rain that would come upon it, and be productive of all good things for man and beast, in case of obedience, and a restraint of it in case of disobedience, De 11:12-17, from the continuance of them and their offspring in the land, should they be careful to observe the commands themselves, and teach them their children, De 11:18-21, and from the extensiveness of their conquests and dominions, De 11:22-25 and from the different issue and effects of their conduct and behaviour, a blessing upon them if obedient, but a curse if disobedient, De 11:26-28 and the chapter is concluded with an exhortation to pronounce the blessing on Mount Gerizim, and the curse on Mount Ebal; the situation of which places is described when they should come into the land of Canaan, of which they are assured, De 11:29-32.
