In the second year of King Darius,1 on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai2 to Zerubbabel3 son of Shealtiel, governor4 of Judah, and to Joshuaa5 son of Jehozadak,6 the high priest:7
You have planted much, but have harvested little.15 You eat, but never have enough.16 You drink, but never have your fill.17 You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages,18 only to put them in a purse with holes in it."
"You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little.23 What you brought home, I blew24 away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin,25 while each of you is busy with his own house.
