ThenJesussixdaysbefore the passovercametoBethany,whereLazaruswaswhich had been dead, whom he raisedfrom the dead.

Theretheymadehim a supper;andMarthaserved: butLazaruswasone of them that sat at the table with him.

ThentookMary a pound of ointment of spikenard*, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus,andwipedhisfeet with herhair:and the house was filledwith the odour of the ointment.

Whywasnotthisointmentsold for three hundredpence,andgiven to the poor?

This he said, notthathecaredfor the poor;butbecause he was a thief,andhad the bag,andbare what was put therein.

ThensaidJesus,Letheralone: against the day of myburying hath she keptthis.

For the pooralways ye havewithyou;butme ye havenotalways.

Muchpeopleof the Jewsthereforeknewthat he wasthere:and they camenotforJesus' sake only,butthat they might seeLazarusalso,whom he had raisedfrom the dead.

But the chief priestsconsultedthat they might putLazarusalso to death;

Because that by reason of himmany of the Jews went away, andbelievedonJesus.
