Josué 22:16-26

16 Toda la congregación del SEÑOR dice así: ¿Qué transgresión es ésta con que prevaricáis contra el Dios de Israel, volviéndoos hoy de seguir al SEÑOR, edificándoos altar para ser hoy rebeldes contra el SEÑOR

17 ¿Nos ha sido poco la iniquidad de Peor, de la que no estamos aún limpios hasta este día, por la cual fue la mortandad en la congregación del SEÑOR

18 Y vosotros os volvéis hoy de seguir al SEÑOR; mas será que vosotros os rebelaréis hoy contra el SEÑOR, y mañana se airará él contra toda la congregación de Israel

19 Que si os parece que la tierra de vuestra posesión es inmunda, pasaos a la tierra de la posesión del SEÑOR, en la cual está el tabernáculo del SEÑOR, y tomad posesión entre nosotros; pero no os rebeléis contra el SEÑOR, ni os rebeléis contra nosotros, edificándoos altar a más del altar del SEÑOR nuestro Dios

20 ¿Por ventura no cometió Acán, hijo de Zera, prevaricación en el anatema, y vino ira sobre toda la congregación de Israel? Y aquel hombre no pereció solo en su iniquidad

21 Entonces los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad, y la media tribu de Manasés, respondieron y dijeron a los principales de los millares de Israel

22 El Dios de los dioses, El SEÑOR, el Dios de los dioses, El SEÑOR, él sabe, y que Israel también sepa; si por rebelión o por prevaricación contra el SEÑOR (no nos salves hoy)

23 que nos hemos edificado altar para tornarnos de en pos del SEÑOR, o para sacrificar holocausto o presente, o para hacer sobre él sacrificios pacíficos, el mismo SEÑOR nos lo demande

24 asimismo, si no lo hicimos por temor de esto, diciendo: Por ventura mañana vuestros hijos dirán a nuestros hijos: ¿Qué tenéis vosotros con el SEÑOR Dios de Israel

25 El SEÑOR ha puesto por término el Jordán entre nosotros y vosotros, oh hijos de Rubén e hijos de Gad; no tenéis vosotros parte con el SEÑOR; y así vuestros hijos harán que nuestros hijos no teman al SEÑOR

26 Por esto dijimos: Hagamos ahora por edificarnos un altar, no para holocausto ni para sacrificio

INTRODUCTION TO JOSHUA 22

The war with the Canaanites being ended, Joshua called to him the two tribes of Reuben and Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh, who came over Jordan with him to assist in it, and commended them for their obedience to Moses and to himself, and to God by them; and then dismissed them, with some instructions to keep the ways and worship of God, and with his blessing upon them, Jos 22:1-8; upon which they returned to their country, and when they came to the borders of it set up an altar by Jordan, Jos 22:9,10; which, when the children of Israel heard of, it gave them great offence, they fearing they were going to make a revolt from the pure worship of God, and therefore sent a deputation of princes to them, with the son of the high priest, to inquire into the matter, and expostulate with them about it, who did, Jos 22:11-20; and who received from them a very satisfactory answer, Jos 22:21-31; with which they returned and reported to the children of Israel, and which gave them pleasure, Jos 22:32-34.
