Jueces 20:1-6

1 Entonces salieron todos los hijos de Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, incluyendo la tierra de Galaad, y la congregación se reunió al SEÑOR como un solo hombre en Mizpa.

2 Y los jefes de todo el pueblo, de todas las tribus de Israel, tomaron su puesto en la asamblea del pueblo de Dios, cuatrocientos mil soldados de a pie que sacaban espada.

3 (Y los hijos de Benjamín oyeron que los hijos de Israel habían subido a Mizpa.) Y los hijos de Israel dijeron: Decidnos, ¿cómo ocurrió esta maldad?

4 Entonces el levita, marido de la mujer que había sido asesinada, respondió y dijo: Vine con mi concubina a pasar la noche en Guibeá de Benjamín.

5 Mas los hombres de Guibeá se levantaron contra mí, y rodearon la casa por la noche por causa mía. Tenían intención de matarme; pero en vez de esto, violaron a mi concubina de tal manera que murió.

6 Tomé entonces a mi concubina, la corté en pedazos y la envié por todo el territorio de la heredad de Israel; porque han cometido lascivia e infamia en Israel.

Jueces 20:1-6 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO JUDGES 20

This chapter relates, how that there was an assembly of the children of Israel at Mizpeh, upon what had happened to the concubine of the Levite, where he appeared and related the whole affair to them, Jud 20:1-7 upon which they unanimously agreed to chastise the inhabitants of Gibeah for what they had done, Jud 20:8-11, and in order to do that sent to the tribe of Benjamin to deliver the guilty, but instead of that they took to their arms, and prepared for battle in defence of them, Jud 20:12-17 and two battles ensued on this, in which the Israelites, who were on the right side of the question, were worsted, Jud 20:18-25 but upon their seeking the Lord again, and their humiliation before him, they engaged a third time in battle, and got an entire victory over the Benjaminites, and destroyed them all excepting six hundred men, Jud 20:26-48.
