Sacharja 4:4-14

4 Und ich hob an und sprach zu dem Engel, der mit mir redete, und sagte: Mein Herr, was sind diese?

5 Und der Engel, der mit mir redete, antwortete und sprach zu mir: Weißt du nicht, was diese sind? Und ich sprach: Nein, mein Herr.

6 Da antwortete er und sprach zu mir und sagte: Dies ist das Wort Jehovas an Serubbabel: Nicht durch Macht und nicht durch Kraft, sondern durch meinen Geist, spricht Jehova der Heerscharen.

7 Wer bist du, großer Berg, vor Serubbabel? Zur Ebene sollst du werden! Und er wird den Schlußstein herausbringen unter lautem Zuruf: Gnade, Gnade ihm! -

8 Und das Wort Jehovas geschah zu mir also:

9 Die Hände Serubbabels haben dieses Haus gegründet, und seine Hände werden es vollenden; und du wirst erkennen, daß Jehova der Heerscharen mich zu euch gesandt hat.

10 Denn wer verachtet den Tag kleiner Dinge? Und mit Freuden werden jene Sieben das Senkblei in der Hand Serubbabels sehen: die Augen Jehovas, sie durchlaufen die ganze Erde. -

11 Und ich hob an und sprach zu ihm: Was sind diese zwei Olivenbäume zur Rechten des Leuchters und zu seiner Linken?

12 Und ich hob zum zweiten Male an und sprach zu ihm: Was sind die beiden Zweige der Olivenbäume, welche neben den zwei goldenen Röhren sind, die das Gold von sich aus ergießen?

13 Und er sprach zu mir und sagte: Weißt du nicht, was diese sind? Und ich sprach: Nein, mein Herr.

14 Da sprach er: Dies sind die beiden Söhne des Öls, welche bei dem Herrn der ganzen Erde stehen.

Sacharja 4:4-14 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO ZECHARIAH 4

In this chapter are contained the vision of a golden candlestick, and of two olive trees by it, and the explanation thereof. The preparation to this vision, which is the awaking of the prophet, as of a man out of sleep, is in Zec 4:1. The vision of the candlestick, and olive trees, is in Zec 4:2,3. The candlestick is described by the matter of it, gold; and by the parts of it, its bowl, lamps, and pipes; and the olive trees by their situation; the explanation of which is at the request of the prophet, he not knowing what they meant, Zec 4:4,5 when it is observed to him, that this represents, under the type of Zerubbabel building the temple, the building of the Gospel church by Christ; and which is done and finished, not by might or power of man, but by the Spirit, notwithstanding all opposition, and contempt of it, to the great joy of many, who observe the grace of God, and his providential care and goodness, in it, Zec 4:6-10 and upon the prophet's inquiring the meaning of the two olive trees, which he was ignorant of, he is told that these are the two anointed ones that stood by the Lord of the whole earth, Zec 4:11-14.
